Unfortunately, our experience at Assunta Madre was far from pleasant. Upon arrival, there was no one to welcome us—just two people standing inside doing nothing—until eventually a hostess appeared and managed to locate our reservation.
Despite the late hour, the restaurant was still quite busy. However, we couldn’t help but notice a rather particular kind of clientele at several tables—ladies whose presence felt more performative than casual dining. I’ll leave it at that.
As for the food, there was very little genuinely Italian about it. Most dishes were made with an overwhelming amount of butter, the seafood was clearly frozen—not fresh—and the overall quality didn’t match the prices. It also became apparent that the pricing varies depending on whether or not you’re a local. For tourists, prices are significantly inflated.
The risotto was drowned in butter, the clams were frozen (as clearly seen in the photos), and the pasta was so overcooked it was swollen with starch. To top it all off, when the bill arrived, we noticed the prices had been increased compared to the menu. The waiter started giving us strange excuses, but I didn’t argue—I just paid and left.

We reserved a table for Sunday family dinner and everyone of us loved this place so much. We knew it’s not the best place for kids, so we left them with the nanny at home. I had no reservation tough, somehow I went it and told the recepcionist girl that I have no reservation but I would like to be seated and have my dinner. She let me in and walked me to the dining room. It was huge and there was noone inside, all the tables were free. Anyways they kept me standing first and then another staff came up to and took me back to the entrance door. He kept pretending that he doesnt’t understand english and “I have no reservation but I want to eat” that I had to leave because they were not even trying to help and practically put me out.
