Makan Indian Restaurant: From Zero to Hero!
So, picture this: two years ago, I strolled into Makan Indian Restaurant full of hope, only to leave feeling like I’d just attended a culinary tragedy. The food? Meh. The supervisor? More of a “cheerleader for chaos” than an actual leader. I mean, who knew a restaurant needed a traffic cop?
Fast forward to today, with Maharaja Restaurant out of the picture, I thought, “Why not give Makan another shot?” Spoiler alert: It’s like they flipped a switch and decided to impress me!
First up, the lentil soup. It was so earthy I half-expected a squirrel to join me for lunch. Seriously, it was rich and comforting, like a warm hug from Mother Nature herself—if she were serving soup, that is.
Then came the Dahi Poori. Crispy, refreshing, and a burst of flavor! It was like a party in my mouth, and everyone was invited!
Now, let’s talk about the vegetable samosas. The stuffing was fantastic, but the dough? It was so thick I thought they were trying to build a samosa fortress! I was half-expecting a “samosa workout plan” on the menu.
I ordered two lamb biryanis: one spicy and one not. When the spicy one arrived, I tasted it and thought, “Is this supposed to be spicy or just practicing its sass?” I told the staff, and they whisked it away like it was a contestant on a cooking show, and when it returned, it was on fire! Now that’s customer service!
But the real star of the show was the Bhuna Ghosht. Oh my goodness! The meat was cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and so rich that it could’ve won an Oscar for “Best Supporting Role in My Dinner.” Every bite was a delight, and I might have even considered proposing to my plate.
A huge shout-out to Ashish, my superb waiter! He was like the superhero of the dining room—always there, cape not included, making sure my dining experience was smoother than a Bollywood dance move!
Oh, and let’s not forget the ambiance! They had this lovely background music called “Bahon Ke Darmiyan (Unwind Instrumental)” by Jitendra Thakur & Amar Khandha playing. It was so relaxing that I almost forgot I was at a restaurant and not in a spa. If only the mixed grill had been as calming. It had potential, but it was so overcooked it could have auditioned for a role in a dry meat documentary. They were like, “We tried our best, but we’re just too overachieving!”
Overall, Makan has made a comeback that deserves a round of applause (and maybe a gentle reminder about the grill). If you’re looking for delightful dishes that might just make you forget your past grievances (and the occasional dry meat), this place is worth a visit! Cheers to second...
Read moreHi, I visited this place with my family recently. Mr. Hitesh has clearly put in a lot of effort in the place. The restaurant should be on your list when visiting Jeddah. Ambience is cozy and relaxing. Seating is comfortable. Staff is active and respectful. Mr. Biswas takes good care of the place. I ordered Paneer Butter Masala, Dal Tadka, Dahi Puri, French Fries, Saudi Champagne, Garlic & Cheese Naans, and Gulab Jamun. Both Paneer dish and Dal had well balanced flavors and were cooked in authentic Indian style. Dahi Puri- although a bit on the sweeter side was a refreshing starter. Must try. The only suggestion I have is for the breads. Although freshly served, the breads were hard from the very beginning. By the time you really wanna relish them, they become slightly dry and harder. It seems, water content could be increased while kneading the dough (for a softer and runny dough) and also inclusion of curd and making a slightly thicker bread may solve this issue. I ordered only vegetarian dishes but the presentation of non-veg dishes arriving at other tables was also 💯 🔥 😎!
All in all, the experience was memorable and worth the visit! Kids had a...
Read moreThere are hundreds of Indian restaurants in Jeddah Azizia alone. So what sets this apart and gets a 5star rating?
Service 5/5. Excellent service by the staff specially the manager from Varansi, India. One of our orders was not perfect and we returned it and they took it off the bill without us asking for it. That’s good service.
Ambience 4/5. Clean and new. They serve food in clay pots or stainless steel plates. They need larger napkins though
Food 5/5. The chef from Nepal has created unique flavors. The biryani rice is excellent and very unique due to his special method of preparation which is completely different from other commercial places. The dahi kebab is also unique and never had that before, it is essentially fried yoghurt. The samosa chat and the basic chat were excellent too. The mutton kebab disappointed but the mutton masala was wonderful as was the grilled fish.
Overall definitely worth another visit to try other things. The menu is too big
Price $$$ moderate and reasonable. It is not Azizi but it is not Miayzu either.
Restaurants come and go in Jeddah and I hope this one lasts and maintains their...
