Shang Palace — Restaurant in Makkah Region

I previously gave Shang Palace a 5-star review, which is something I rarely do for any restaurant. Unfortunately, my experience with the New Year’s offer was so disappointing that I will never consider celebrating another occasion here for the following reasons:

1-The WhatsApp message advertising the New Year’s offer had two conflicting prices: the image mentioned 400 SAR per person, while the text stated 500 SAR per person. This kind of error is unacceptable for a five-star establishment. Even a fast-food restaurant wouldn’t make such a mistake.

2-I convinced two other couples to join us for this celebration, making three couples in total. However, the booking process was so frustrating that two people cancelled and decided not to join. This was extremely disappointing, especially since I had personally convinced them to choose Shang Palace over other options.

3-I sent an email about this issue over a week ago and have yet to receive any response. The lack of follow-up or acknowledgment from your team is unprofessional and shows a disregard for customer concerns.

4-The New Year’s deal felt like a scam. Charging 500 SAR per person and then requiring two people to share a main course is unacceptable. For example, two people paying 1,000 SAR were served only one lobster to share. What if I had come alone? Would I have been served just half a lobster? This pricing structure was misleading and completely disrespectful to your customers.

5-The flute player during the evening was not synchronized with the music, and the performance felt amateurish. For a venue of your caliber, I expected far better.

I have celebrated many occasions at Shang Palace in the past and always recommended it to others. However, after this experience, I feel cheated and disrespected. This was not the level of quality and service I associate with a five-star establishment. I will not...

My Review of Shang Palace Restaurant at the Jeddah Shangri-La:

Confused Service and Overrated

THIS IS MY SECOND VISIT WITHIN THE PAST TWO MONTHS.

The place is new and the they are trying to make the setting mimic that of a high standard Michelin star restaurant. But that is where the similaritiy ends in s sad way.

The waiters are ill informed and have no Idea what the menu Items consist of. The management are enforcing European standards in a very abnoctious way. They think they reflect a higher standard by being stuck up.

They have a limit of 6 persons for an alacart menu, otherwise if you are 7 or more you have go to a set menu that is superimposed and chosen by them in addition to being astronomically priced.

They have no idea that an average family in Saudi Arabia is larger than an average family in Europe. But these kind of ill fated decisions are expected when the manager is from a different social setting.

The quality of the food ingredient is average and no amount of fancy presentation can elevate the standard.

For Shang Palace to become a top notch chinese restaurant They need to revisit their management style, service style and ingredients.

a similar alternative with friendly service would be TOKI on King Road.

I believe Jeddah needs more fine dining Chinese Restaurants to Jumpstart a healthy competition to the benefit of restaurant goers in Jeddah.

I ill not say no to going back, but I don't think I will feel the desire to go back again.

An Exceptional Dining Experience at Shang Palace, Jeddah

The service was nothing short of exemplary, with a special mention to Abdullah, who went above and beyond to ensure every aspect of our meal was flawless. His warm demeanor, exceptional attentiveness, and in-depth knowledge of the menu elevated the entire experience. Abdullah’s ability to make personalized recommendations based on our preferences truly added a special touch to our meal.

The ambiance of Shang Palace is elegant yet inviting, providing the perfect setting for an indulgent brunch. From the perfectly steamed dumplings to the delicious spring rolls and aromatic main courses, every bite was a testament to the restaurant’s dedication to excellence.
