Thambi's was a major letdown for anyone craving authentic South Indian and Asian fusion dishes. The dining experience was undermined by numerous issues, ranging from poor food quality to indifferent service.
Firstly, the Kili Poratta was a disappointment. It arrived cold, and the layers that should have been light and flaky were dense and tough. The side of curry lacked any discernible flavor, tasting diluted and unseasoned.
The Kothu Poratta, which I had high hopes for, failed to deliver. It was evident that the poratta was not freshly made but rather stale and reheated, resulting in a rubbery texture. The dish was poorly balanced, dominated by an excess of greasy onions and a lack of the vibrant spices typically expected in Kothu Poratta.
As for the noodles, they were the most underwhelming of all. Served soggy and clumped together, the noodles were drenched in a nondescript sauce that was neither flavorful nor authentic. The supposed stir-fry vegetables were sparse and overcooked, adding no freshness to the dish.
Service was slow and unresponsive. It took a long time to place our order and even longer to receive our food, with no apologies or explanations from the staff. The ambiance of Thambi's did little to improve matters, with outdated decor and an uncomfortable seating arrangement.
In conclusion, Thambi's falls short of its promise to deliver quality South Indian and Asian cuisine. With its lackluster menu items and poor service, it's hard to recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a...
Read moreThambis Restaurant and Cafe offers a decent dining experience for those looking to enjoy a mix of South Indian and café-style dishes in Riyadh. The food quality is generally good, with authentic flavors in some dishes that stand out, especially their dosas and filter coffee, which are worth trying. The portion sizes are fair, and pricing is reasonable compared to other similar restaurants.
The ambiance is casual and comfortable, making it suitable for quick meals with friends or family. However, the service can be inconsistent at times, with delays during busy hours and occasional issues with order accuracy. A little more attention to detail in service and quicker response to customer requests would improve the overall experience.
Cleanliness and table arrangements are acceptable but could be enhanced to create a more inviting dining environment. The café section is a good addition, but it could benefit from better beverage variety and presentation.
Overall, Thambis Restaurant and Cafe is a good option for those seeking simple, flavorful food in a casual setting. With improvements in service speed, cleanliness, and overall dining experience, it has the potential to become a stronger contender in Riyadh’s...

One of the best south indian restaurant in riyadh in terms of location, atmosphere and service.
Quantity of the food was more than enough, every single penny was worth it.
Quality of the food is also good for us, we enjoyed the taste (waiting to taste their briyani in afternoon)
The guy who served us was perfect, he said about the quantity and stoped us over ordering the food, which wont happen in many restaurants.
It was a perfect budget friendly restaurant to have authentic south Indian foods.
They have separate rest rooms also and separate family section also available.
Parking wise no issues, mostly it will be available outside.
Enjoy your...
