Yesterday I ate at Casa Teranga and inquired about the moringa smoothie. I let the waitress know that I didn’t know what it was and told her I’d never tried it before. She told me moringa is an herb and I ordered the smoothie.

Within about 20 minutes of drinking the smoothie, I had a pretty severe stomach reaction that resulted in both vomitting and diarrhea. I ended up spending the rest of the day on the toilet rather than enjoying my vacation.

After doing some research, it appears that whoever made the smoothie put in far too much moringa and essentially poisoned me.

The smoothie I had was very powdery and had a strong taste. The daily limit for moringa consumption is 70 grams which this smoothie could have easily exceeded.

I’m leaving this review not out of malice but out of concern that another unsuspecting customer doesn’t get poisoned as well. They either need to stop serving this smoothie or properly train staff on how much moringa they should add.

I would have happily reached out to staff privately but I don’t have an instagram account or the ability to call a Senegalese phone number.

Edit to reply to the owner: Yes I drank all of the smoothie. As I said, I didn’t feel sick until 20 minutes after I drank it. However, I was barely able to eat any of my food due to my reaction.

I left such a large tip because you didn’t have any change and I needed to get out of the restaurant as fast as possible before I threw up again. I told you on the phone in English and in French that I was very sick and needed to leave as fast as possible.

The woman who was working that day can attest to the fact that I went in and out of the bathroom four times and I was obviously in destress.

You need to remove this menu item and/or properly train staff on how much moringa should be added to a smoothie. A quick google search will tell you that too much moringa can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea...

Casa Teranga is hands down my best restaurant experience as a vegan in Dakar (and maybe anywhere). After starting to follow them online even before I moved to the city, and enjoying their updates, I visited the restaurant on their soft launch day, feeling excited like a kid on Christmas Eve. Everything about the place was wonderful.

First, the setting. I had seen the pictures and videos online, but I still had a huge smile on my face as I walked up the colorful stairs and discovered the gorgeous outdoor space, and the incredible view. Casa Teranga offers one of the most picturesque settings I've seen in Dakar so far.

Then, the people. The owners were very nice and friendly, and it was a pleasure to chat with them. It really felt like I was visiting friends for an evening at their place, and I enjoyed how welcoming everyone was. We also share a lot of values, and I admire their emphasis on zero-waste cooking, whole food ingredients, recycling, and overall cooking and eating in a way that doesn't harm the planet (or animals, obviously).

And of course, the food! I didn't take any pictures, eager as I was to try it, but it was beautiful and delicious. I went with a friend and we shared a bit of each other's plate. I got the jollof bowl, while she got the hummus bowl, and both were great. What I loved about it was that it really tasted like a home-cooked meal, with fresh, local ingredients, but also that the dishes were balanced. No starch overload like it's often the case in vegan restaurants, but a generous combination of cereals, legumes, and veggies. Highly, highly...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Heavenly Experience: A Vegan, Super Healthy, and Sugar-Free Paradise!

As a lover of healthy and vegan cuisine, I can say without hesitation that this restaurant is a hidden gem! From the moment you step inside, you are welcomed by a relaxing atmosphere and an aroma that promises a truly unique culinary experience.

The menu is a symphony of flavors, perfectly balancing taste and health. Every dish is a work of art, showcasing the freshest ingredients and surprising combinations that demonstrate a genuine love for vegan cooking. And knowing that everything is completely sugar-free is just the cherry on top (of course, a healthy and delicious cherry!).

We tried several dishes, and each one amazed us with its deliciousness—from the vibrant, nutrient-packed bowls to the light yet incredibly indulgent desserts. Every bite was a sensory journey that delighted the palate without any guilt.

The staff was fantastic: attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to explain every detail of the dish with passion and expertise. You can truly feel the commitment to creating not just a gastronomic experience but an emotional one that leaves you with a profound sense of well-being.

I recommend this place to anyone who wants to nourish their body and soul, whether you are vegan or just curious to explore healthy and authentic cuisine. A true oasis of health...

The food and drinks were absolutely amazing. The only and biggest issue was the very large amount of flies in the dining area. I visited around 3:45pm. I wasn't able to enjoy everything at a slow and steady pace and take in all of the amazing flavors because I did not want to have to keep an eye out for the flies. I am told that this may be normal for Dakar, but if you are not used to it, it may be unnerving. It may be helpful if there are maybe those small table fans for guests. Or maybe a quick wipe down just before guests sit with some sort of natural bug repellent like a diluted essential oil (eucalyptus, peppermint, etc.) Again, great food and drinks (the dessert was amazing), just way too many flies during the afternoon. I love the idea of the restaurant. I would try again maybe in the evening if there are less flies.

Casa Teranga is a great little place. We came here once for drinks and another time for a meal. They offer delicious plant based meals and a selection of drinks - their baobab juice and bissap is delightfully refreshing and not too sweet. Some of the meals are Senegalse, others are not, like pizza. They also have a sister restaurant, I think, in Berlin. We heard the pizza was really good but I was wanting to try their Ashanti bowl and jollof rice. Both were great, and it was really fun to try a vegan version. The place is intimate and cute with a beautiful view of the sunset and sea.

Edited to add that this was the best vegan pizza I’ve ever had, and a great pizza even in comparison to non-vegan pizzas. Highly recommend! I was excited to try Dakars newest vegan restaurant. I went twice-the first time to try the Buddha Bowl and the second time for a vegan mafé. I appreciated that both dishes were well balanced and healthy. But both could use some tweaking for more flavor. Casa Terangas sustainability is admirable and the place itself is stunning. Lots of pros: diverse menu, beautiful decorations, and kind staff.
