Restaurant La Pointe des Almadies — Restaurant in Dakar

Classic European fare. Seems like it gets busy around 9pm. Live music after 9. Friendly staff. A bit disorganized. Slow with the drinks. Tried to order a Gazelle. Waitress kept saying no gazelle. Then there was gazelle. She got me dizzy. They had Moscow mules, copper cup and all. The margarita was watered down. Finally got the Gazelle! Ordered steaks, pork dibi, some appetizers. They got an appetizer wrong. Wouldn’t give us the one we actually ordered. Took it away and brought it back. Said that was what the order was. The waiter wrote the right one down, chicken tenders with BBQ, on his scrap of paper that he left on the table, but then when we got the bill they switched the appetizer on the final bill and charged us a bit more. We order tenders. Not a salad. Kind of sneaky. Most of us ordered the steaks in pepper sauce, rare. We got them rare to well done. Even though each steak was supposed to be 220gr. They were all different. One was clearly over, like 300. They were good, tender etc. The pork sucked. It was dry, chewy, tasted too much like cumin. Two bites and done. Cheesecake for dessert. They said they made them there, they were good but clearly frozen and defrosted. The coffee was good. All things considered the staff was not terribly attentive. The owner did the required rounds. We told the waiter that one steak was overdone. He said next time to ask them to change it. As they wouldn’t do that with the wrong appetizer ( we order chicken tenders and got a chicken salad, it was clearly wrong, waiter even lied about, told me the vinaigrette was a BBQ sauce, and that the chicken fingers was actually a salad) I don’t think they would have given us a new steak. Bathrooms were super clean, except my wife did see a mouse scurry around the toilet and out the door. It’s a coin toss...

We arrived there with a baby of 1 year old, the girl that received us was so rude, they wanted to change us place more than 3 times, we waited around 15 minuts for somebody come back to us to take our order, once we did they took 15 minuts more for bring the drinks, in all that time i asked to 3 different servers the chair for the child that they brought 30 min later. After one hour, hopefully they was nt full, they brought the paella, that was the only good thing in all the restaurant, excepting one server. For real senegal must teach to their workers the meaning of working on public.. being rude or disrepectful to clients will nt solve the problems...

Attentive service and nice environment around a large pool (be aware, no view over the sea although nearby). The quality of the food is a problem. I chose the Argentinian steak medium rare, and it arrived definitely well done. My date had sole with shrimps, and the fish was so raw that we had to send it back for extra cooking. It was a shame because both fish and meat were of good quality. I suggest the ownership to work on the chefs quality because it doesn't match the price (too high).
