Phare des Mamelles — Restaurant in Dakar

Following my attack and physical assault by two employees of Phare Des Mammelles on the night of February 11, 2022, I will no longer patronize that establishment. Long story short, after being rejected by the hostess for being too casually dressed despite our reservations and custom-made culturally appropriate attire, I took a picture of the receptionist desk to go along with this review and the hostess physically attacked me in an attempt to confiscate my phone. A male security officer came and aggressively restrained me while taunting and berating me to release the photo. I refused and eventually gained freedom in time to hop in a cab. The trauma of the experience kept me from writing sooner. I cannot speak to the food or drinks and although making the reservation was easy, having it honored was impossible. Would not recommend.

Edited to address lies by the restaurant. I did not have any alcohol or other substances and was only coming to celebrate Valentines day with my husband ahead of his travels. It is disappointing that you would respond by attempting to tarnish my reputation. Second, I was not belligerent. I only stated that I should be released. My French is too poor for me to have said anything offensive to anyone. Finally, when I spoke to your manager multiple times that day (in English), even moments before the assault, he can confirm I wasn't disrespectful. Phare des Mamelles is a restaurant where we enjoyed a delightful meal. The prices are a bit high, but they are understandable given the prime location. The restaurant offers stunning views of the entire city, which adds a unique charm to the dining experience.

The staff were friendly and polite, though not always as attentive as one might hope. Sometimes it took a while to get their attention, but overall, they were pleasant and helpful.

Getting to the restaurant is an adventure in itself. You can either walk up or take a shuttle bus provided by the restaurant. Once at the top, the panoramic view of the city is breathtaking and worth the journey.

The food was well-prepared and delicious, with a variety of options to satisfy different tastes. The ambiance of the restaurant, combined with the view, makes it a special place for a meal.

Had a wonderful time there. The special events with the whole staff is fun and the animation is quite good and original. We ordered food for a big party so tasted a bit of everything and honestly it was a hit and miss, some are good other bad... My advice, stick to fundamentals and food you are used to. But yeah you go mostly for the ambiance and not necessarily the food. Update: Went there during Ramadan in 2024 and WOW it was simply amazing, they have a buffet that is excellent with a very friendly staff. The food experience was excellent compared to my first time so kudoos to them hope it applies to other times going forward. Price was on the expensive side but totally worth it for the experience, at least try it once and really prepare your stomach to get your moneys worth. Ambiance was okay, it was a bit better before, but this was a Ramadan and non summer crowd so can't really complain. Anyway...
