I don't like giving poor reviews, but this restaurant was by far the most disappointing of all places I have visited in Novi Sad. I suppose the high ratings must be from the great views. Indeed the terrace out on the fort ramparts is stunning, and I suppose that alone might make the restaurant worth visiting for a few drinks. But the food is absolutely terrible. After we were told that the kitchen was out of our first, and then second choices of Serbian grilled meets, we ordered the 'Domaca Petrovacka' (sausages on bed of mashed potatoes). These were extremely mediocre, tasted totally processed, like some store bought variety. A grilled squid dish we also ordered was very overcooked (rubbery + oily) and basically inedible. Additionally, the 'Piatto Terasa', sampler plate of meats and cheeses had what seemed like processed deli meats and cream cheese, was served with a white bread that was definitely the mass-manufactured, preservative filled, pre-sliced stuff you can get at any gas station grocery mart. The wines were just... I guess a fitting accompaniment for the quality of the other food? Beer would have been a safer bet. I will end on one positive note, however — our waiter was absolutely charming and as sweet as could be, even if his kitchen was completely inept. Not to sound like a snobby New Yorker, but a restaurant like this couldn't survive a week in Staten Island, let alone Manhattan. So it's a shame it has to take up such a beautiful venue in Serbia. There is very good food to be found in Serbia and this is...
Read moreI am in Serbia for a short business trip and am departing tomorrow morning, but felt compelled to write a positive review. It seems to be a popular spot for both locals and visitors, and is situated in the picturesque Petrovaradin Fortress, with spectacular views across the Danube river to the rest of Novi Sad. That being said, the restaurant is a destination in its own right! I loved the elegant yet relaxed ambiance, and the stylish interiors really complemented the historic cross vaults. Loved the lounge music and jazz remixes of 80s hits! The fresh flowers on the tables are a thoughtful touch too. I ordered a starter of grilled cheese and vegetables, and perch pike for the main, with a bottle of sparkling water. The waiter was incredibly attentive throughout my visit, and the food was worth the wait. The appetizer was pleasantly tangy and flavourful, and the fish had a lovely crust while remaining succulent inside. Even the bread was aromatic, and although I couldn't finish most of it, the waiter helped me pack them to go promptly. I don't often visit restaurants nor write reviews online but this place truly deserves a mention, as does the rest of the city, which I (ignorantly!) knew little about before visiting but am now yearning...
Read moreTerrible experience here. Waiter got the order wrong or Chef prepared it wrong. Asked for rare T-bone steak and received well done. Told the waiter didn’t want the Steak and he insisted that he would bring another one despite saying no don’t bring another Steak we just don’t want to pay for the burnt steak. He insisted on bringing another steak and said we would not be charged. So 20 minutes later a steak cooked Medium shows up. Ok fine, I eat it despite it not being cooked how I asked. Then the bill comes and the Steak is on the bill. We ask why and he says well you ate the one steak, I didn’t charge you for both. WHY would anyone want to be charged for 2 steaks that were not prepared correctly let alone pay for the one he insisted on bringing out despite our concerns and his promises we would not be charged. Supervisor or whoever came to speak to us next not only didn’t speak good English but also didn’t see a problem for charging us for the steak. To avoid more conflict we ended up paying for the steak but want people to know DO NOT GO...
