The restaurant that transports you back in time, an authentic Serbian restaurant in Vranje located in a historic townhouse.
Meana is the most visited restaurant in Vranje and a favourite amongst locals and travellers. It truly has the most tranquil garden dining area.
Recommend to book, as it fills up very fast and due to the nature of the restaurant being a place for families and friends to gather and socialise, the tables do not turn over fast.
We were fortunate to arrive just before the lunch crowd gathered and were seated on one of the last remaining tables.
As this is a local restaurant, they only have one menu in English, and very little is spoken amongst the staff, so you truly have a unique experience. The staff were charming and welcoming.
The menu is pages of traditional dishes, and the wine list was also extensive, full of Balkan treasures at excellent prices.
A fantastic array of grilled meat dishes, which were on top of everyone's list, is their speciality. We enjoyed the tasty food, and be sure to try the delicious homemade bread.
Best to order your dishes up front, as the kitchen and staff are bustling and service is impacted due to the restaurant's popularity. We did wait for over one hour for our main dish. Therefore we recommend putting all your orders through on arrival. We generally like to order one dish at a time.
A beautiful dining experience, one that needs to be on your list when...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant for years. Usually, when we go to Greece we tend to make a break in Vranje and go to Meana for lunch. Few years ago when we visited this place we were delighted. Food was great, it was affordable, the place had a friendly vibe and kids liked it.
Over the years the place lost it's charm and the staff was becoming worse. We reserved the tables for 2-3 families in advance whenever we went and still to order food, you need to wait.
This year we decided it's was the last time we went to Meana after so many years. This year we went there- 8 of us with the reserved table. We arrived and said we deserved and the staff told us that there are couple of tablets available and we should find one for us. We waited 30+mins for a waiter to order and waited 1.5+hours for our food. The food was OK but nothing comparing to previous years. Prices went up and portions went down. After we finished the food, we ordered the coffee which didn't arrive after 20mins and we decided to leave. We paid the bill and afterwards we noticed they even billed us the coffee which we didn't get.
Sadly, at this point I would suggest until the management deals with all of the problem said, avoid this place.
Maybe we will give it a shot again in a few years, as paying almost 100eur and getting service like...
Read moreYesterday, I took my wife and our two children (to age 2) to Gradska Meana for our (3year) wedding anniversary. We were seated inside by ourselves for the sake of the children, and for the sake of a little bit of privacy. They allowed us to bring a children's chair inside. We brought it along because it is otherwise difficult to keep a toddler in place while eating without the seat with straps. The waiter was respectful, courteous, helpful, and timely. This is actually our second experience at the restaurant, and both times the experience was wonderful. I have been to more than 200 restaurants in Serbia, and I rank this restaurant #1 -- because of great service, tasty food, and a nice ambience in the restaurant. The restaurant itself is attractive beyond explanation, and the waiters' attitude is precisely the attitude needed in all of south Serbia for us to thrive, rather than just surviving. The employees care about the customers, they are attentive to their needs, and are more than respectful. They clearly understand why they have a job, and they seem to enjoy what they are doing. They went above the call of duty by treating our 2-year-old son with dessert -- two shredded coconut bars glazed with chocolate and four strawberries. This is customer service, worthy to be emulated in...
