The worst barley water ever!
This place is unbelievable. I've been to 7 out of the 10 ASEAN countries, and the worst barley water I've ever had was in this Sichuan restaurant. If you don't know how to make barley water, just sell bottled drinks from your supplier! But this place insists on making its own barley water, which they load up with ten times the sugar and additives. Yes, you read that right. Besides being super sweet, their barley water even has a hint of gasoline flavor – one sip and you might meet your maker! This goes beyond bizarre cooking!
Sour cabbage vermicelli was exceptionally awful, and unbelievably, it contained minced pork! My goodness! The menu clearly stated sour cabbage vermicelli with no mention of pork, yet there was pork in the dish. It was absolutely disgusting! Their sour cabbage vermicelli already taste flat in seasoning, but adding the strange-tasting pork turned it into a nightmare!
Spicy Lamb Chops Extremely dry. So dry it gives you a headache! I used to think Sichuan people can't cook lamb, and that Inner Mongolian chefs do it better. But after eating at chuanyangji, I found that some Sichuan chefs do know how to cook lamb. But not here, it's just terrible!
Lamb Skewers The seasoning is peculiar! Typically, northern-style skewers are not spicy; they add a bit of sugar for the kids. But here, it's super spicy and super sweet! It lacks the delicate aroma and flavor of Haidilao's chilli. The seasoning is strangely similar to that awful gasoline barley water!
Beef Noodles Other dishes being poorly cooked indicates the chef's lack of skill, but at least noodles should be easy to make, right? Basic food hygiene, right? Wrong! There's all kinds of dirty dust on their noodles, as if they'd fallen on the ground and picked up a heap of dust, and then they just cooked them right away. Look at the pictures! Clearly, this isn't pepper or some kind of seasoning; it's just dirty!
As we all know, Sichuan cuisine is known for its spicy flavors, with lots of chili to mask any freshness issues with ingredients or the unhygienic cooking process. But noodles are white, so it's easy to expose the dirt! This is the worst of all the Sichuan restaurants I've been to except chuanjianghaozi. Even basic food hygiene is big issue...
Read moreService was great. Was given a seat almost immediately upon arriving even though we reached close to 7pm. We were a group of 4+1. Baby chair was placed at the side of the table and staff was really nice to move the table beside further away, so that it wouldn't block the passageway. If it was other restaurants in SG, usually they won't allow us to take the seat. 👍👍👏👏 Thumbs up for the flexibility and service!
Tried the spicy grilled fish, for the price of $23, portion was really huge! Wasn't very impressed at the first taste, but it taste better and better the more we ate and we finished all the soup! Soup wasn't salty or oily which makes it really palatable.
Also ordered Seaweed and egg soup. Costs only $5 and it was served in such a huge portion! Soup is the fav for my 3 kids and it was sufficient for all of them. Definitely worth the money (this soup easily cost $3 for a tiny bowl elsewhere!)
Tried the lamb skewers. Was decent but not the best that we've tried. But for $1.50/skewer it was such a steal!
Will definitely return. Great value and great food without...

Atmosphere very inviting with all the bright signboards and decorative seatings.
Dishes Tried: Grilled Fish (香辣,清江鱼) Stir Fried Lamb w/ Cumin Sauce Shredded Potato Egg Plant
Grilled Fish - $23 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Fish is fresh and size is good for 2 pax. The soup could be tastier (missing a bit of the shiok factor).
Stir Fried Lamb w/ Cumin - $15 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lamb very tender and the sauce is amazing! Must try dish. Got choice for Beef or Pork as well.
Shredded Potato - $5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Appetizing (sourish) dish. Good to have when all the other dishes ordered are salty or heavy.
Eggplant - $8 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not really a fan of eggplants, but this eggplant is done in a very very unique way. The eggplant reminds me of candy (very sweet). The sauce is coated with what feels like honey and soy sauce (thickened up).
Overall: Good for Family Dinner or Beer 🍻 Nights. Affordable Food & Drinks (compared to other grilled fish...
