During our recent visit to Chopsuey Cafe at Dempsey Hill, Kitty, two of our lady friends, and I found ourselves immersed in an English setting that offered creative and unique Chinese and Asian cuisine. Opting for a shared dining experience, we ventured beyond the traditional individual main course selections, allowing us to sample an array of dishes and explore the culinary diversity of the restaurant. While the food was acceptable, it did not reach the level of fantastic we had anticipated, leading to considerations about the pricing and culinary expectations. The cozy ambiance gracefully enveloped our dining experience, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere that fostered moments of camaraderie and shared enjoyment.

Known for its innovative twist on traditional Asian dishes, Chopsuey Cafe delivers a delightful culinary experience that tantalizes the taste buds with a variety of flavorful dishes crafted with fresh and quality ingredients.
Despite the satisfactory service marked by courteous and friendly staff, our visit encountered challenges due to an understaffed dining floor, stemming from employees on medical leave. This situation extended to the kitchen staff, leading to delays in food preparation that impacted the overall dining experience. The combination of these staffing shortages resulted in the dishes not meeting our expectations, highlighting the importance of an adequate staff presence in both front-of-house and kitchen areas.
The notable price point at Chopsuey Cafe, reflective of its upscale location in Dempsey, raised considerations regarding the balance between cost and the overall dining experience. Taking into account the collective elements of food quality, service efficiency, pricing affordability, and staffing constraints, the dining encounter warrants a 4-star rating for Chopsuey Cafe at...
Read moreDid not have a good experience at the start.
Brought my parents as it was my mum’s 61st bd. Love the lobster wantons and some of the other dim sums, but all of us did not enjoy the orange duck dumpling. Chocolate cake is also excellent. Other main dishes we ordered were ok only.
Overall most of the staff were friendly and gave good service, except for one staff that really spoiled our first experience here. When we first entered she was black-faced, curt, no smile no greetings, bad tone. Thats fine with us as everyone can have bad days. However, when we nicely asked for alternative methods to scanning my elderly dad in such as using Nric as he doesnt have internet on his phone, that particular staff said no, which is fine but what was rude was she then proceeded to look at my dad from head to toe, which made my parents feel awkward and judged. My parents rarely eat out at restaurants and it was a special occasion but its sad that they were made to feel unwelcome and awkward.
This staff only served us at the start thankfully, from entrance to showing us our table and taking the first drinks order, before someone else took over. Right after we reached the table and sat down, she also curtly dictated that we have to leave at a certain time (as they have two hours limit), which we do know already when we made the booking, and even if a reminder is necessary, we would appreciate it being said in a nicer way instead of making us feel like we are being chased out when we just arrived and sat down. When our two hours was up at 7pm and we left, restaurant was still half empty.
Nonetheless, the other staff who served us gave great service...
Read moreWe visited Chopsuey on the recommendation of our hotel concierge, but unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing.
We had an online reservation for 8:00pm but arrived early at 7:35pm as my wife wasn’t feeling well. While they seated us, no one bothered to take our order until 7:55pm – not even for drinks. When our appetisers finally arrived, they were brought out before our drinks, which only came later.
About an hour after we arrived, the restaurant served us just one of our main courses. The rice and vegetables never came, despite being ordered. When I asked, I was told the chef “sends out whatever is ready.” At no point were we informed of this approach, nor asked if we were okay with it. After another wait of 5–7 minutes, we called for the manager and asked her for the bill so we could leave. Her response was that they were “extremely busy,” and she offered to comp the bill and send out some steamed rice. Five minutes later, with still no rice in sight, we simply gave up.
By 8:45pm — more than an hour after arriving — we walked out, fed up with waiting and eating average food, and went to the restaurant next door instead.
To make matters worse, the food itself was average at best – heavy on sauce, lacking real spice or balance, and far from memorable.
Overall, this was an extremely poor dining experience: slow, disorganized service, lack of communication, and food that didn’t justify the reputation or recommendation. We will not...
