Last week I decided to try Kalam Restaurant based on the reviews I found on Google, and the experience wasn't disappointing. And the fact that it was located just across the hotel where I was staying was a nice bonus. I came here with my Mum, once for lunch and once for dinner. For lunch we had pani puri, south indian set meal, and masala chai. The pani puri was good and fun to eat. The set meal included a few kinds of curry (which I guess vary from day to day), jeera rice (if I'm not mistaken), papadum, naan, and gajar halwa (again, if I don't mistake the name with something similar 😅). I can't say that I liked all the curries, but I loved the paneer butter masala. The jeera rice was good, and the naan was good as well as the papadum. The gajar halwa took me by surprise because it wasn't overly sweet like the Indian sweets that I've ever tasted before, and I actually pretty enjoyed it. The masala chai was good and pleasant to drink because it gives a hint of warmth on your throat. Two days later we came back here for dinner. This time we had onion pakora, samosa, palak paneer, masala chai, and hot badam. The onion pakora was good (but I think I would've liked it better if it had been fried in a shorter period of time so that it would've been lighter in color without any hint of bitterness). The samosa was okay (I couldn't really get the real taste, probably due to the tiny bite size). The palak paneer was good (tends to be a little salty if you eat it just like that, but goes just nice along with naan). The papadum was good. The masala chai was good just like the first time we had it. The hot badam was good, and I found it really nice and soothing for a rainy day or before sleep). On both our visits we were served by the restaurant staff Charan, who was so friendly and attentive, and gave us a lot of recommendations (unfortunately neither I nor my Mum was such a big eater, hence we couldn't order much and actually had to share everything 🤭). During our dinner, suddenly we were approached by Mr. Dhanabal who presented us with a free portion of naan, fresh from the oven (or should I say 'tandoor', maybe?), even though we said it would be too much for our almost-too-full-little tummies. Well, he insisted that we should have naan in our dish, and he wouldn't take no for an answer!😅 Of course the naan was good, hot and fluffy, and made the palak paneer taste even better!😋 All and all, our visits had been really nice and satisfying, thanks to the good food as well as nice and friendly gestures from Mr. Dhanabal and Charan. We wish you all the best for your business, and we would gladly visit you again should we have a chance to come to Singapore again...

The menu is a well-curated selection of North and South Indian delights, with each dish bursting with bold flavours. We ordered mango prawn curry which was recommended by the staff , it was really delicious and creamy flavour, i will suggest to eat it with white rice. The chicken dum biryani was aromatic, with each grain of rice infused with a medley of spices, and the tender, slow-cooked meat melted in the mouth.
Service was impeccable, with friendly staff eager to recommend dishes and ensure a wonderful experience. The presentation of the food was as delightful as the taste, making every dish feel special. The staff even gave us a plate of seeraga samba rice for free to taste , it was really really delicious.
