Loved it đ Made a reservation and requested for outdoor seats. Itâs the cute little building with the flying saucer on top. The manager showed us to our seats and as we had requested. It was outdoor and facing the gorgeous view of the whole Marina Bay area. It can get warm and humid so guys and girls please dress light. The restaurant is on the 8th floor, so it isnât really high up. You donât get the feeling that youâre looking down on things, but that makes the view unique. Had some yakitori, tamago mentai, tori tsukune, chicken skin and chicken with leek. Each stick cost between $5-$8. It all tasted great. I was served on the charcoal grill so it was kept hot and yummy Grilled amaebi was a nice starter too. The grilled buta main was served with lettuce, which I used to wrap up the meat before eating. It was so good as there was sauce drizzled over the veggies. It also came with a side of potato salad which was good đđ» Order the grilled squid which was served on the grill and so so good. The sashimi was ok too Take note that the grill can be very hot and adds to the heat in the area. We also order a bottle of sake: the Four Foxes. It was a classic sake with a nose of banana and an aftertaste of melon. And the bottle is visually stunning! You can request to bring the bottle home after youâre done. Dessert was the matcha lava cake and the caramel lava cake. Both are served with vanilla ice cream. The combination was sooooo good. Loved the dessert!!! If you donât like dining alfresco, ask for a table indoors. Itâs...
Read moreUSHIO is situated in a really good location, with a fantastic view across the water from MBS. We had outdoor seats and absolutely loved them. The space itself was decent, and the staff were sufficiently attentive and helpful.
Unfortunately, the most important thing for a restaurant is the food, and this was really quite a disappointment. USHIO feels like somebody trying to create Japanese food from photographs and hearsay, with no real idea what it's supposed to taste like. Of the dishes we ordered, the octopus and the bone-in short rib were decent. The rest of it was confusing, lost, and just tasted wrong. The agedashi tofu came with some weird, thick paste which was the only thing adding flavor, the chicken skin was like thick batter-coated seaweed, the the clams just didn't taste very fresh. Foie Gras oden was interesting conceptually, but the execution left much to be desired.
To be fair, the menu highlights seem to be the donburi and the sandos, neither of which we ordered. I imagine those must be better. Hope they fix the flavors on their menu, which would vastly improve the...
Read moreOf all the days we had to come here when it was pouring. So indoor seating it was, but we could still have a clear night view of the spectacular marina bay. The food was actually not that bad I feel, above my expectations after reading other reviews how average or poor the food was prior. The squid was especially good, in part due to the very cold weather, where it is served on hot charcoal so it's always warm when you eat it. Surprisingly after being on hot plate so long, it was still chewy and tender not tough at all. The Tako has a nice after taste to it, very refreshing. Unagi maki was the next best dish and the combination was good. Salmon mentai was a bit too dry I feel, while the fried oysters also felt it will be better if it was more moist inside to have the natural taste of oysters. Instead it was totally fried from crust to core so it was bit disappointing. All in all quite a nice place to visit, especially with burple 30% discount. Will probably visit again when the...
