Five Star Dinning Experience at Xiang Xiang Hunan Restaurant (Pasir Ris Mall)
My recent visit to celebrate our son's birthday was nothing short of exceptional, leaving us thoroughly impressed by the impeccable service, swift delivery of delicious food, and the incredibly thoughtful gestures that made our special occasion truly unforgettable.
From the moment we were seated, the service at Xiang Xiang was truly immaculate. The staff were attentive, polite, and incredibly efficient. Our orders were taken promptly, and to our pleasant surprise, the dishes arrived at our table with remarkable speed, each kept wonderfully warm by a clever mobile gas cooker placed beneath. This ensured that every bite, from the first to the last, was as enjoyable as if it had just left the kitchen.
We ordered straight from the list of signature dishes The Hunan Stir-fry Pork was delicious though the sight of the green chilli had raised my hope of getting a greater kick of spiciness. The Golden Broth Sour and Spicy Fish was unique with the lemon slices and fish slices bathed in a golden broth that was citrusy and sweet all at once. We enjoyed the earthy flavours of the Bamboo Shoot Stir-fry with Bacon Pork that paired well with rice. The simple yet comforting Hand-shredded Cabbage as well as Sour and Spicy Potatoes provided a delightful textural contrast. The Olive Green Bean Delight was alright. The Dry Tossed Vermicelli Pot was a flavourful and satisfying noodle dish, and the 18-Second Angus Beef Stir-fry was well liked by my family. incredibly tender and packed with flavour.
What truly elevated our experience beyond the array of food was the genuine warmth and thoughtfulness shown towards our son's birthday celebration. The restaurant offered us longevity noodles, which we kindly declined as we had ordered quite a feast.
To our surprise and delight, the staff went above and beyond by creating a makeshift birthday "cake" out of ice creams! They then came over to our table, singing a heartfelt birthday song, making our son feel incredibly special.
This unexpected and incredibly kind gesture truly showcased the exceptional hospitality at Xiang Xiang Hunan Restaurant.

We visited Xiang Xiang on 28 June around 11:30am for lunch and stayed for about an hour. While making payment, I was carrying my restless toddler when the cashier started explaining a promotion. She mentioned that our bill was quite high and said we could enjoy a promotion immediately. I didn’t fully catch the details and assumed it was about collecting points or getting a small discount. She then said that if I paid with a DBS Mastercard, I’d receive a $10 voucher for future use. I agreed and passed her my card.
To my shock, the receipt showed a $300 charge — our actual bill was only $144. Only then did I realise she had signed me up for a $300 dining credit package without clearly explaining it. I immediately told her I did not want it and requested a refund. She said she would help me after assisting the customers behind me. I waited, but she didn’t follow up. I had to go back to her, and she handed me a refund receipt, saying I would receive the refund within 12 hours. I also returned the $10 voucher and told her clearly that I was doing so, to avoid any misunderstanding — she didn’t acknowledge this and responded with a very poor attitude.
To add to the frustration, I needed to settle my actual bill — but she asked me to pay $157, which was more than the original $144. I had to show her the original bill to ensure I was paying the correct amount. Again, no apology, no proper explanation. I didn’t catch her name, but she wore a “one-star staff” badge. It feels like they’re trying to deliver Haidilao-style service, but this staff’s attitude and communication were far from it.
The food itself was good, but the unclear promotion, poor communication, and lack of professionalism really marred the experience. I hope the management takes this seriously and improves staff training on both service and clarity...
Read moreXiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine has made a name for itself with an outlet at Pasir Ris Mall, and the long queues outside are a testament to its popularity and quality. Specializing in authentic Chinese cuisine, the restaurant consistently delivers top-notch food that leaves diners coming back for more.
One standout feature of Xiang Xiang is their approach to serving rice. Instead of the usual bowls, they serve their signature rice straight from an entire rice cooker placed on your table. This not only ensures the rice stays warm throughout the meal but also adds a unique touch to the dining experience. A custom tray is provided to hold the rice cooker, making it both practical and charming.
Xiang Xiang’s menu boasts three signature dishes that truly shine. The Sour and Spicy Fish is a must-try—even surpasses the version offered by the nearby Taier restaurant, which is renowned for the same dish. The balance of tangy, spicy flavors with tender fish is simply unbeatable. Equally impressive are the Angus Beef Stir-Fry and the Stir-Fried Pork, both of which are aromatic and flavorful. However, they can be a bit oily, which may not suit everyone’s preference.
Beyond the signature items, the rest of the menu holds its own with a variety of delicious dishes that showcase the bold and spicy flavors characteristic of Hunan cuisine.
To top it all off, Xiang Xiang adds a sweet finishing touch by offering free ice cream after your meal, much like the popular Haidilao chain. It’s a delightful way to cleanse your palate and end the dining experience on a high note.
Overall, Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine offers exceptional food, a unique dining setup, and thoughtful extras, making it well worth a visit for fans of authentic...
