It was a mixed experience for my friend and I when we visited last Sunday. The food was excellent, but my friend's order was forgotten, and then mixed up, and there was no service recovery. We both ordered minestrone soup and ribeye steak, with a Lite Bites sharing platter (photo here). Only difference was that his steak was supposed to be medium with mashed potato and mine was medium rare with sauteed mushrooms. Soup and platter was served within 10 mins, and my steak came 5 mins later, but his didn't come. We waited another 15 mins for his steak before asking about it, while my steak went cold. The waiter promised to check but did not come back to us. We asked another waiter 10 mins later... this waiter apologized, checked and told us they're preparing now and it'll take another 5 mins. I had decided to start on my own luke warm steak by then. It was a good thing we were in the alfresco area, so it wasn't totally cold. When the steak came, it was sauteed mushroom on the side, and the waiter confirmed the steak was medium rare... in other words, NOT my friend's order. By this time, my friend was too fed up (his sentiment, but also the platter had a lot of truffle fries, so can be quite filling) and he cancelled his order, didn't accept their offer to recook the steak to medium (eew) and change the side to mashed potatoes, nor wait for a replacement (another wait?). When the bill came later... Wait for it... they did not charge us for his order, so at least they didn't totally condemn themselves (phew, but yes, you bet we were waiting for it). The bill was served to us by the manager, and we found out that he didn't know about our situation at all! We briefed him what happened and he went to check with his staff. When he came back, he merely said, "the bill is correct, we did not include the canceled order". Which means his staff probably totally played down our disappointment and unhappiness, by skipping the delayed and ultimately wrong order, and went straight to the canceled order part, and this manager had no idea why we were so unhappy, even after we left! My friend and I were confounded! Missed and wrong orders are unfortunate and thankfully only occasional, but the least a decent restaurant can do is service recovery, and that won't happen unless the manager knows about it, or he empowers his staff to do so without his intervention. My friend promised never to return. I might, since the food is really quite good. But on the way back to the car, we found another restaurant very near to the car park but further inside near the airfield fence, that looks promising. My friend said he'll probably...
Read moreFirst visit to the restaurant and went there for an early valentine's day dinner. The place has a nice ambience, chill and not crowded, which is partly due to the location. Would suggest opting for the outdoor seating.
We ordered a ribeye steak, fried sweet prawn and a spicy pulled pork pizza. We ordered a glass of red wine and Guinness.
While ordering the steak, we could select another side on top of the mesclun salad and we decided to go for seasonal vegetables. As the menu did not specify what vegetables are for today so we asked the waitress, the waitress thought for a while and said "I don't know." Not to be demanding, but it could be better than "I don't know." So we go for mushrooms in case the seasonal vegetables have something we don't like.
We reach before 8pm so there are still happy hours. The pour for the red wine is generous, about half full and the stout is full with nice foam.
The prawn came first and straight away there was a fishy smell. At first we are not sure if it is from the prawn but confirm it when brought nearer to smell. The prawn is fried with the head and shell on. I don't mind eating with the shell on but at least it has to be crispy.
Pizza came next. I would say it is the best of the three. Pizza is not the best but quite delicious, although the pulled pork tastes like canned spicy tuna. The sauce base tastes like bbq sauce, with cheese and pulled pork and top with some onions which I think can have more. The portion is good for 2 pax.
Lastly comes the steak. The ribeye looked promising when we saw the nice sear. We ordered a medium and the doneness is just right. The steak is seasoned just right, but some parts were chewy and had to split out.
Not feeling satisfied, we decided to order cajun seasoned chicken wings. The wings come out a bit dark brown. Suspect might be the oil but seems to be the seasoning. The wings taste decent but nothing special, it feels like coffee shop ke ai ji chicken wings.
Overall, the place is good for gathering as it is spacious and less crowded. Just go for some beer and pizza. But for me, I wouldn't come back again, if you are staying around the sengkang area just google essen @ the anchorvale, better food, cheaper beers and at a better price and...
Read moreIf you're looking for a dining experience that's both comfortable and extraordinary, Young Bar and Restaurant is a hidden gem you must visit. The restaurant itself is spacious and cozy, with simple yet inviting décor that creates a warm and visually pleasant atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to unwind and indulge in great food.
Now, let’s talk about the food – it’s nothing short of amazing. We started with the Mussel Mariniere, and it was an absolute delight. Each mussel was incredibly fresh, tasting as if it was just fished out of the sea. The broth was light yet bursting with flavor, making it a perfect pairing with the soft, fresh bread on the side. It was a lovely and flavorful introduction to the meal.
The Grilled Angus Ribeye is another showstopper. We ordered it medium-well, and it was cooked to perfection. This is hands down one of the best steaks we've had in Singapore. The meat was juicy, tender, and every bite was a burst of natural steak flavor that had been perfectly locked in. The black pepper sauce was a nice touch, adding an extra layer of depth, though the steak itself was so well-cooked that we personally enjoyed it without the sauce. Truly a highlight of the meal!
Then there’s the Ang Moh Laksa Burger – an unexpected surprise and a must-try! This fusion creation marries the bold flavors of East and West in the most delicious way. The perfect balance of spice and indulgence, it’s something you have to experience for yourself.
Service here is fast and attentive, and the prices are more than reasonable for the generous portions and top-quality dishes. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making the entire experience feel special and effortless.
I’ll definitely be coming back to Young Bar and Restaurant to try more dishes from their menu. If you're in the area, don't miss out – this place is a...
