Extremely disappointing experience. 7.11 pm: Ordered $80 worth of food via their website, with an estimated arrival time of 8-8.45 pm.
8.26 pm: one single packet of chicken rice arrived which was obviously drastically different from our actual order. Called the place to ask, the staff told us they didn’t receive our order (but somehow managed to deliver something to our address), told us they will check and call back.
8.52 pm: Place hasn’t called back at all, so we decided to check with them instead. The staff claims that they need to check with their incharge for what to do with our order, promised to call back in 5 minutes.
9.03 pm: Place did not call back as promised (again, honestly not sure if we would have gotten any progress if we did not proactively check with them), so we called instead. Staff claims that they are preparing our food and trying to get a driver to deliver.
9.37 pm: Staff called to apologise and say that the driver will be on the way with the food soon. (Not sure what’s up with their delivery service but we received notification that they sent a grabexpress driver instead)
9.53 pm: Driver called to check on our address as he was given the wrong unit number for the delivery and had went to the wrong unit. We finally received our food after more than an hour of delay.
We had previously tried to order via Foodpanda last year, only to get our orders cancelled after 1 hour of waiting without any reason. Never had we thought that we would experience food delivery issues with the same place again. Very disappointed and will not recommend anyone to order delivery here since they seem very consistent in not delivering the correct order at the correct time (can’t speak...
Read moreTasty vegetarian dishes priced quite reasonably. Their Toona Leaf (Xiang Chun) Fried Rice is one of our staples, with an incredibly rich flavour of the wok. Some other must-trys are the Creamy Monkey Head Mushrooms and Fish Bee Hoon soup. Seasoned with curry leaves, turmeric powder and generous amount of cooking cream, the Creamy Monkey Head Mushroom dish has just the right balance of spicy-sweet-savouriness. The Fish Slice Bee Hoon soup comes in a gigantic portion for just $4, great as a one dish meal for one person. The takeaway queues are usually long and be prepared to wait up to 40 min just for your food to be served/packed.
April 2022 - Tried the Penang Assam Laksa today and was amazed at how much it tasted like the real deal!
Recently, they started selling vegan Tau Sar Piah at their counter. Guilty to admit I'm hooked on them! The mushroom flavoured ones has bits of chewy mushroom while the curry ones tasted like a cross between a curry puff and salted bean pastry. Would come back to buy more of these flaky gems for my friends. Update on Tau Sar Piah June 2023: This batch is no good, the pastry is horrendously thick and the bean filling with mushrooms is very little. Will not...
Read moreZhen Yi Vegetarian is a restaurant. It is located at HDB ground floor, 10-12 mins walking distance from Ang Mo Kio Hub. Zhen Yi Vegetarian operates daily from 10am to 10pm.
You can find plenty of food choices from individual meal to "zhu cha" (shared dishes usually serve with rice). Easily more than 50 choices. Big portion for Asian, food quality is above average (take Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food into consideration).
The price of the food is inexpensive, considered the food is served in restaurant. For examples:
One cup of local coffee cost SGD 1.10 One small plate of dry fried mushroom with cereal for 3-4 pax cost SGD 9.00 One plate of fried mixed veggie for 3-4 pax cost SGD 8.00 One plate of fried toufu for 3-4 pax cost SGD 8.00 One bowl of rice for 1 pax, SGD 0.60 Individual meals, mostly between SGD 3.50 and SGD 5.00 each
Price as of 10-Sep-2017
Ambience is average, but definitely better than coffee shop, food court and the like of coffee stall. I like the rack, ceiling and wall decoration.
