Been coming to Charlie's for 20 years, I am astounded by some of the ratings by others. I have been here for 10 days on this visit and still trying hard to find a 1* cake or ice cream. Morning noon or evening. Yes the owner does does seem a little grumpy at times, but when you get to know him he is a funny genuine man. The cakes we have had have all been superb, as have the ice creams. We have had service from staff that have been nothing but friendly and helpful. If this is a 1* establishment I would love to know where the persons rating 1* get their cakes and ice creams from and If you would like water with your coffee, open your mouth and ask. 5* cakes and 5* service is all we...

I was about to leave a positive review until a waiter approached me and irritatedly told me I couldn’t just sit and have coffee, as they "need to make money," and I had to leave my table and touched me. This happened despite the fact that I had ordered multiple coffees and a dessert (which is the only thing they serve, by the way). Nobody had come by to ask if I wanted anything else. Old fashioned but cozy place. Very good cake, homemade the traditional way (not really clear based on what comparison people rate the cake and ice so badly). The owner is an elderly guy, quite grumpy at first sight but a good soul after all. The lady who is with him is very nice and helpful. Both speak at least German and a bit of English.
