Gostišče Janez x Lola — Restaurant in Maribor

I moved to Maribor in September (though I was here for four months last year) and I've not cooked a meal once. I have eaten out every night, and as a result have been to many of Maribor's restaurants. Recently, I started coming to Lola, first for breakfast, and now for lunch/dinner. Based upon my experience, it is, without doubt, and by a wide margin, the best restaurant in Maribor (and would be a great restaurant anywhere), with the most original menu I've seen in a very, very long time. And I don't mean just for Maribor or even Slovenia. I mean, anywhere.

Chef Urban's food is beyond imaginative and sensational, in part because it's so daring, but the results are delicious despite the odds. Jure, the only server I've had (perhaps because he's simply there all the time), takes excellent care of me as I'm sure he does others.

The restaurant's decor is stylish without being garish. The one downturn in the atmosphere is the occasional "pop" music I am subjected to. A minor minor, overall.

Had a lovely lunch for two people. We ordered Tagliatelle with date mussels and a thai-style roast beef salad. Both dishes were very tasty and nicely presented. The interior decor is elegant and the front terrace gives you the city vibes, if you want that to accompany your lunch.
