Unlike my last review at another restaurant in Portoroz, Stara Olijka, was better than we expected. Like pretty much everywhere we dine these days we check out the reviews. If they're 4.5 and above then it's a pretty good bet that we're going to dine there, around 4, and I generally read the latest and newest reviews first, after all staff may have changed, a new manager may have been installed or the chef and kitchen staff may have changed - all factors that we look at when deciding where we're going to spend our hard earned holiday euros and pounds.
The service was very good, the waiter was attentive, helpful, happy and very timely with his service.
We had a nice table with a pleasant outlook looking out over the beach and nearby lawned area.
Our drinks arrived together and our meals all arrived together. There were no issues with our dishes and the drinks were reasonably priced. The mixed meat grill for two was probably the most expensive that we had during our stay in Portoroz, but it was well cooked and was super tasty.
We weren't rushed and were able to dine in a relaxed atmosphere.
Level 10 Google reviewer with over 1,200 reviews with 2 million views plus 14,000 photos with more than 60 million views and still going strong 💪.
My reviews aren't sponsored, they're based on mine, and often my wife's experience at an establishment whether that be a shop, restaurant, service or activity, with the aim of highlighting great service plus areas for improvement, if necessary. And boy sometimes it is necessary.

Read moreDO NOT EAT HERE!! Me and my friend casually decided to grab something to eat before the beach. This restaurant used to be the best all over the Slovenian coast and I really do not know what happened. The waiters and all, the restaurant itself was okay nothing special, half empty beacuse it was very hot. I believe the athmosohere in the evening is very pleasant. BUT, the food : BE VERY CAUTIOUS WITH THE FOOD, we weren’t so hungry and it was very hot so we decided to only take some starters. It was beef and fish carpaccio for us, two portions of fish for each and one beef, that we split. When i tell you, i came home at around 8pm and that is when it all started, the nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. I ran to the ER, where they told it was probably the Sallmonella virus, you usually get the one by eating raw, dirty, contaminated foods, especially meat. I did not realize at the moment, the fish was very cold and weird structure so it was probably frozen and old, i didn’t mind at the moment because it tasted well. My friend also got diarrhea but it is mild. I have been in a very bad condition ever since, yesterday evening. If the owner of the restaurant, or anyone in charge reads this, I just want to warn you to keep the kitchen and the food very clean, beacause I am defenitely calling for restaurant inspection. It is such a shame, this used to be a very good restaurant. Btw the bill for 3 carpaccios and 2 ice teas...
Read moreDuring our recent visit to Portorož, Slovenia, we had the pleasure of dining at Stara Oljka, a charming restaurant managed by Harris. The experience was nothing short of delightful, and we left with fond memories of the place.
The food at Stara Oljka is exceptional. We particularly enjoyed their BBQ and fresh fish from the sea, which were both cooked to perfection. The flavors were authentic and truly showcased the culinary skills of the kitchen staff.
Service at Stara Oljka is another highlight. The staff is incredibly quick and efficient, ensuring that we never had to wait long for our orders. Moreover, their multilingual capabilities are impressive, with team members fluent in Italian, Serbian, German, and English. This made our dining experience smooth and enjoyable, allowing us to communicate effortlessly.
The restaurant also offers a delightful selection of local wines. Each wine we tried was tasty and fresh, complementing our meals...
