Nestled in the heart of Clarens, Neked Food offers a culinary journey for vegans that even the most ardent carnivores may find hard to resist. From the moment we have stepped inside, we were embraced by an atmosphere that's both warm and inviting, setting the stage for a dining experience that would be very hard to equal. We have stumbled on this gem and it was serendipity!
My husband, daughter an myself each ordered a different dish and all of them were masterpieces - from main meals to desserts. Kudos to the chef for, blending innovative cooking techniques with fresh, locally sourced produce. The fresh produce ingredients used, no preservatives and meal preparation where clearly no short-cuts were taken, speak volumes of the owner's commitment to sustainability and health. The menu is extensive and caters for a wide array of palates, ensuring that everyone can find something to excite their taste buds.
However, what truly sets Neked Food apart, is not only the cuisine, but that attention and care from all staff: waiters to owner and everyone else. They made every visitor feel welcomed and cared for.
The owner is in a class of her own. She is gracious, hands-on, thoughtful and attentiveness. creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for her guests.
Neked Food is so much more than a restaurant. It's a place where wholesome food and life is celebrated and dining becomes an act of joy and discovery. Whether you're a committed vegan or just curious about plant-based food, a meal at Neked Food is bound to leave you eager for your next visit. A visit to this special place is worth the travel - 3 hours, in our case. International standards, right here...
Read moreWe stopped here before our hike for some healthy smoothies as this was highly recommended on TripAdvisor. The smoothies and avocado on toast for our 2 year old were great, however the service took this away from the experience. As soon as we sat down, the server kept reminding us that "the restaurant was strictly vegan'' over and over again, which I found to be condescending. We ordered anyway, I noticed that on the menu avocado price was R 40, she said it was R50, which I found to be strange. But this wasn't the only strange thing that she did, when she brought the bill, the same avocado was now R 60 and when I asked her about it, she just said, the menus were old.
After paying quite a lot for what we ordered, I felt that something was off, and especially the fact that she didn't ask if we wanted the receipt. I asked her for the receipt, and to our surprise we ended up paying 20% tip because the service fee is included (written in tiny print on the menu) and she didn't tell us about this and my partner is generous man who likes to tip but we felt that we were being deceived because the included service fee was already included. I really do hope that you have updated your hard copy menus to align with your...
Read moreI have enjoyed the most incredible plant-based eating experiences I have had in South Africa, at NEKEDFood, in Clarens (Free State) 🤤
I have been numerous times & every time the food has been consistently amazing! The owner, Vanessa Jarvis Findlay, is plant-based herself, and serves food that both plant-based & non-plant based eaters are guaranteed to enjoy (my fully-fledged South African hubbie can attest to this!).
The dishes are all homemade, from scratch. Many include healthy whole food sources of plant protein (including tofu & Seitan). Fresh, seasonal, high vibrational & exciting food, & a vast array of dishes (sweet & savoury).
Vanessa & her staff prepare & cook the food with so much love, pride, passion & excitement, which completely enhances the joy in eating their delicious meals.
Not only is the food incredible, but the setting is beautiful & welcoming, the staff warm & friendly & always have a smile to share.
Meals can be enjoyed sit-down, takeaway or bought frozen to take home.
This food experience is not to be missed if you are visiting Clarens, or even worth making a special trip (the town of Clarens is also an absolute...
