I stayed at the Protea in Clarens for a few days, and while there were certainly highlights during my visit, there were also a few notable issues that hindered my overall experience.

One of the standout aspects of my stay was the friendly and responsive room service personnel. They were always prompt in fulfilling my requests, particularly when I needed extra milk. Their attentiveness was greatly appreciated and made me feel well taken care of.

However, I encountered a few setbacks that impacted my comfort. Firstly, there was an issue with vent noise in my room, which caused some disturbances during my stay. Additionally, the air conditioning failed to provide adequate heating after the first day, leaving me feeling somewhat chilly in my room.

Moreover, I arrived at the hotel two days prior to check-in with hopes of securing an upgrade to a mountain-facing room. Unfortunately, the manager on duty seemed disinterested in my discussion with the check-in personnel, despite witnessing my frustration. This lack of engagement left me feeling disregarded as an gold elite member.

Furthermore, I experienced some initial difficulty in obtaining additional still water (apparently 1 bottle every second day per room). While tap water is usually fine for most people, it causes discomfort for me, and I would have appreciated a smoother process for obtaining alternative water options. Another inconvenience arose when the internet randomly disconnected during my stay, disrupting my ability to stay connected and be productive. This intermittent connectivity issue was frustrating and hindered my ability as a remote global worker to connect effectively for online meetings.

Lastly, when I ordered food via room service, there was a mix-up with the order. As a result, my wife had to eat alone while I waited for my correct order to be prepared. This miscommunication was disappointing and affected our dining experience.

In conclusion, my stay at the hotel had its ups and downs. While the room service personnel were friendly and attentive to my needs, there were notable issues that detracted from an otherwise pleasant experience. Addressing the vent noise, air conditioning, customer service, water availability, internet stability, and room service accuracy would significantly enhance the overall guest experience...

Overall, our stay at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Clarens was nothing short of remarkable. It may have been our first time to Clarens but we will most definitely be back the staff at Protea Hotel Marriott Clarens made us feel right at home they were all so friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived until we left this must be a feather in the cap of the management let's give them their dues

We found our room to be excellent we had a queen size bed that almost filled the room no I'm only joking but it surely felt like it 😆a small fridge that you could stock with your own drinks and Dstv bouquet was available

You can order room service anytime or simply enjoy the buffet breakfast, lunch or supper downstairs if you prefer I must also mention that cocktail drinks are served at the downstairs bar close to the pool on the veranda outside ...we had a few lol 😆

The magnificent view of the Maluti Mountain is something to die for so please make sure when you do book to choose this option it's well worth it paying a little more please believe me

The food served is way above the rest I have been to a few hotels in my life and I feel I must compliment the cheff they serve a great dish and their friendliness just keeps you coming back for more ...just ask the old tannie that dished up four times

I will definitely recommend Protea Clarens and we will surely be back as a matter a fact we have already set the wheels in motion for our next stay

If perhaps you are spiritual and wanted to visit a church on a Sunday please make the effort to visit the local NG Church and meet Jan the local priest it was indeed an honor to meet someone so full of life and spiritual....he even gave me a history lesson on Clarens and taught me a few things I didn't know
