Walking into Malt at Queens Corner feels like stepping into a holiday for the soul. From the moment you arrive, it’s not just the decor or the laid-back atmosphere that welcomes you—it’s the warmth of the people who work there, making you feel like you’ve just come home, no matter if you're a solo traveler or part of a lively group. It’s the kind of place where the stress of everyday life melts away, and all that matters is good food, great company, and the simple joy of being present. I spent an afternoon basking in the sun with bottomless mimosas, and within moments, strangers became friends, sharing stories and laughter as if we were all part of the same journey. The energy is magnetic, like a beachside escape, where the air itself feels lighter, and time slows down. The service is exceptional, attentive without being intrusive, and the food? It’s like a celebration on every plate—crafted with love, full of flavor, and perfect for anyone who appreciates the richness of life. Malt is more than just a restaurant; it’s a place for everyone, a destination where you can pause, reflect, and enjoy the beauty of connection. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for that perfect blend of comfort and adventure, where every visit feels like a mini getaway.

Malt Barrel and Fire is a beautiful restaurant with a nice atmosphere and good service. If you want a nice atmosphere to share a drink with friends Malt Barrel and Fire would be perfect. I unfortunately cannot recommend the food. We had a breakfast for my brothers birthday and the food was horrible. We had the Eggs Benedict. The meal was terrible. Everything was sour. My mother was nauseous afterwards. We did bring it under the managers attention and she admitted that the chef made a mistake with the recipe. This was a very disappointing experience. We will definitely not eat at Malt Barrel and Fire again.

This place is stylish and full of vibrant and cool contrasting colours and vibes' the food was very well presented and the burger a winner. There is different combinations of areas with different vibes depending on the mood you are in. I did not realize that we would be getting a bottel of water for R50. Make sure the girl likes you because this menu is a bit steeper that other restaurants. Very neat and we love the almost island style theme...

Was very happy when Malt Barrel and Fire opened in Queenswood. Been there about 20 times or more due to convenience and because they have Guinness and Hoegarden and nobody else does.

Besides those 2 items the rest of the entire menu and general service at the restaurant leaves little to be desired. Their baby chicken can be good (not always as I’ve had a few burnt baby chickens there as well) and the beef espatada is okay (not always, also had some bad espetada experiences there) everything else I have tried is poor, their burgers are horrible. Their Pizza is disgusting.

Breakfast is incredibly expensive for sub-standard quality

Overall their food is over priced and no care is taken in food preparation , the food is below par for the price, it’s a waste of money.

I haven’t been there for 2 months due to several disappointments but went again tonight to watch the Springboks in hope of a better meal and it was shocking once more and won’t return again.

I cannot believe the owners of MBF allow such sub-standard food to leave their kitchen. Senior management is nowhere to be seen so for the kitchen and restaurant staff its a case of “when the cats away, the mice will play”

I had pork chops tonight that were drier than a dishcloth, I cannot believe a restaurant can serve such rubbish, this was one of several sub-standard and overpriced meals I’ve had, and tonight was the last time I will spend any money at this sub-standard establishment.

The chops were supposed to come with mash and arrived with 15, maybe 16 skinny chips with no explanation about the absence of the mash as per the menu. The mash would have added some moisture to the tasteless bone dry pork chops.

Besides their Guinness and Hoegarden the rest of their offerings read good on the menu but don’t taste good in the mouth.

The owners clearly take no pride in the food they serve and there is no quality control. The establishment is a conveyor belt of below average poor quality food being churned out from a kitchen that is staffed with people who are not skilled to prepare restaurant quality food you pay good money for.

If I were the owner I would take a long hard look at the poor quality of food I am serving and take more pride in my business.

It’s a below-par establishment.

Drinks are good but overpriced and you can’t really mess drinks up

It’s sad to say that even the KFC a few shops away from MBF offers a far better dining...

So disgusted we will NEVER go back or recommend the place. It seems as if there was a language problem. No proper explanation and no introducing regarding the restaurant. No specials was given and no communication was done. We have to ask questions and the ansers received back he was not sure himself...We ask for the tabel to be cleaned it was wet because of the cocktails, the second time I went to fetch hand towels from the bathroom. I understand if people think there experience is good, because they are not use to excellent dine and wine.

FOOD!!!!! We were 3 adults and had the Ramp and Sirloin, all of our meat was so chewy and very difficult to cut. We all ask for a medium Rump or Sirloin and got Medium to rear. Nobody told us you pay for every singel thing you order. It is not steak with chips or pap or veggies ext. It is steak then you pay for every thing they put on the plate. The money is not the problem but the food was not worth the price. If i paid R250 for just a Rump or Sirloin it must melt in your mouth. And it did not happen.

WOULD NOT Recommend MALT BARREL AND FIRE QUEENSWOOD. NO good food or atmosphere or service.

And we do not stay in that area. Maybe this bad experience is probably because we are use to exceptional quality food and perfect service.

Managers in ANY WORK PLACE ALWAYS make sure all is good. I did not know you have Managers and 2 mangers according to your reply. It shows you how the Managers are what YOU hire. I did not know they are on duty because normally in any restaurant or Corporate place they will come and make sure all is GOOD. Your Managers probably went for lunch when we where there. And the Chowy RAW MEAT were a disgrace, and it is your responsibility YOU order meat to serve not the managers or the staff. Shame on you!!!!.

There you mentioned it, the waiters do not tell the specials you must read it and use the barcode. That means the waiter will not talk to us. And explained and Max diid not. Never suggested any special. Nothing!!!! Does not make sure we know how it works. Did not ask us if it is your first time. And explain quickly how it work NOTHING!!!! Apologieswe have to scan and read ourselves.

My argument is still OUR FOOD WAS HORRIBLE. THOUGH RAW, CHEWY MEAT RUMP AND SURLOIN AND IT IS YOUR...

I'm writing this review quite late because I went back and forth on whether to raise the issue, but I ultimately felt it needed to be shared. A group of friends and I visited Malt on the 19th of April. We ordered food and drinks, and everything was great until the bill arrived and it was shockingly high.

We were served by a waiter named Gift. Upon checking the bill, we noticed we were charged for 8 shots of Don Julio Reposado, one of the most expensive tequilas on the menu at R98 per shot. However, we had specifically ordered Olmeca Tequila Gold, which is significantly more affordable.

When we queried this, Gift told us we hadn’t been specific, which confused us because any uncertainty should’ve prompted him to ask for clarification, not assume we wanted the most expensive option available. We asked him to show us which bottle he had actually served us, and he brought out a completely different one, not Don Julio. One person in our group had even pointed out before we drank that it didn’t look right, but Gift reassured us it was what we ordered, so we trusted him in good faith.

We asked to speak to the manager to get some clarity, but before that could happen, Gift went outside, returned, and pleaded with us not to escalate the issue, saying he could lose his job. He told us we could simply skip the tip if we were unhappy, but we ended up tipping him anyway because we felt bad. Then, strangely, he asked if any of us had a place he could stay, which, after everything, felt completely inappropriate and bizarre.

We didn’t want to cause a scene that late at night, so we left quietly. But the whole situation really soured what was meant to be a fun night out. We usually love going to Malt, the food and service are typically excellent, but this experience with Gift left a very bad impression. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and...
