Mythos Greek Restaurant Meyersdal — Restaurant in Gauteng

What a waste of money I will never go there again !! Party of four dined here on Saturday night. Despite declaring ourselves ready to order waitress disappeared and returned later. On taking starters order refused to take mains order at the same time as is usual in all other restaurants I have ever been to. This allows kitchen time to prepare the mains so that there is not a long delay between finishing the starters. Three of party had fresh oysters. All declared they tasted funny. Probably because they had been frozen and incorrectly thawed !! Starter calamari was declared okay. We waited almost an hour for three mains to arrive. Waitress obviously cannot count to four ! Only three mains arrived !! My main of moussaka arrived stone cold. It had come out of the fridge and no one had bothered to stick it in the microwave. Obviously this was not prepared on the premises. On being returned lukewarm found it completely bland and tasteless as no spice had been used at all. Two of party had lamb shanks which were likewise bland and tasteless and served lukewarm. For the price boring plain boiled potatoes and no other vegetables served with shanks is a rip off. Lamb shanks were tender enough however this I suspect was due to using tenderiser rather then marinating and slow cooking. Fried kingklip was declared excellent. Three had sweets. We went to Mythos with family as our last meal before heading back to the UK. I can't say that the hostess/manageress was welcoming or attentive. Our waitress did her best, however she could have been better assisted by other waiting staff who were just stood around (we went around 4.30pm on Friday 13th September). We were a group of 6, mixed age, youngest aged 10. While we were seated at our table, another guest who was seated immediately behind our table was having a very loud conversation with other guests across from her two tables away. This went on for a while. My observation indicated - someone regular at the establishment, had a couple of drinks lined up and totally disrespectful as she and the staff thought it appropriate to use profanity/swear words at a very high pitch throughout the evening.

This dampened our evening although the food was excellent. The hostess/supervisor should be more aware that every patron is just as important as the next. She never once came around (as common in any dining experience) to ask how our evening or meal was.

Sadly we cut our evening short there and went to another establishment for our desserts and drinks.

Would I recommend? - probably, just for a near authentic Greek food experience but rather short on a Greek cultural, welcoming environment as it is on every Greek island and mainland that we have enjoyed and...

I am very impressed with this Mythos!! It feels like I am back in Greece. The atmosphere and music is 700% like in Greece. The food is outstanding... typically Greek! Portions are big and prices are relative so good, that I cant believe receiving the meal, for the price its for. The waiters are so friendly and very well trained... looks likes like all the staff, enjoy working here. Its a pleasure eating here... all make you feel so important. I can highly recommend this Mythos in Meyersdal to everybody. I'm here for work, staying in Pta but will recommend my friends, to travel the 70 km, for excellent meal and relaxing atmosphere and specially If you want to have real Greek food!
