We first visited Origami when they first opened. That time, they were super busy, and the food was just okay. After seeing other reviews, I wanted to go back seeing their menu had changed. The decor is this cute black and white setting that's picture perfect at every corner. The menu doesn't have a whole lot of options, but it's enough to get your taste bud's watering. We had the bang bang chicken tapas for starters (a great recommendation from our waitress), and then we had the Firecracker with chicken stir fry and can't decide bao (KFC, salmon and panko prawn). For drinks, we had a Vietnamese iced coffee and ginger tea. The food was really good, everything was fresh and flavorful. The bao buns were so soft and tasty. Can't remember it being that way when we first visited. The bang bang chicken was definitely our favorite, though. Give them a visit if you are in the mood for some good Asian food. You won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed being here. Atmosphere: the place is esthetically pleasing, everything looks like it's drawn. Looks exactly like the pictures online. There's a lot to take in and enjoy. The place is relatively small, and it's in a sholping complex. Outside view is largely of the parking lot, but if you sit by the window, you can see the golf course across the road. Service: service was great. Very attentive - I did go on a weekday and there was one other table occupied besides ours, so that could have been the reason, but we lacked nothing, and food recommendations were on point. Food: the food is reasonably priced. For our meal, we each had sushi, a main meal and dessert (i had Edemame beans instead of dessert) and we averaged less than R300pp. The food itself was ok, It was a decent meal for the price, and I would go again, if nothing else, for the ambience.

This is a whimsical place that will leave your taste buds dancing for more. The decor is simply so cute and the vibrant offerings of the menu is beyond great. If you are lost like I was the staff is absolutely amazing I’m giving you what you is popular, do try the wings after all it has been rated Jhb best. The food is big on taste, the presentation is instagramable . But it will leave you wanting to return back for more so be warned. But honestly the star of the show is the staff they really so well prepared on the menu and that is rare. Definitely a great day out and great date night place. They are fully halaal as well so that’s a super big plus.

I booked a table for 13:15. Due to traffic, I arrived at 13:30, only to be told that my table had been given away with no communication. I was then offered a table outside in this freezing weather, even though I had a special needs child with me. Why bother taking bookings if you do not have the skills to manage bookings? If possible I would have given 0 stars. Do not bother going to Origami unless you want to eat sitting in the icy wind.

I have received a reply regarding my review. I wish to acknowledge the swiftness of said reply. I do, however, have issues with the contents of the reply.

  1. I arrived at exactly 13:30. There was already a family sitting at the table that I had reserved (the table was pointed out to me by the waiter), and they had already placed their order. I seriously doubt this could have been accomplished in 60 seconds.

  2. Your establishment may have a standard policy of holding a table for 15 minutes, however, I seriously doubt that this is the industry standard. Moreover, this was not communicated to me when confirming the reservation, nor is is mentioned on any of your social media platforms.

  3. You are in the SERVICE industry, not your customers. As such you should provide a complete service, including contacting your customers who have made a reservation but are late for it. The excuse of being busy does not hold any weight if front of house is doing their job in a professional and efficient manner.

  4. To the person who penned the reply: In the SERVICE industry, the customer is ...? Yes, the customer is KING. If a customer has a complaint, it is your job to find a solution and rectify any problems pointed out. You placate the customer to ensure that they return and recommend your establishment. Your reply was, according to my perception, a bit condescending. I would suggest getting someone trained in PR to...

Origami Restaurant is a gem for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine. As a fully halaal Japanese restaurant, it caters to a diverse audience while maintaining the true essence of Japanese flavors.

The menu offers an impressive variety of Japanese dishes, from sushi and sashimi to ramen, teriyaki, and tempura. Each dish is beautifully presented, reflecting the artistry that Japanese cuisine is known for. The freshness of the ingredients and the balanced flavors make every bite a delight.

The ambiance is equally captivating, with a cool Japanese-themed décor and thoughtfully designed seating that adds to the experience. The minimalist aesthetic, combined with traditional Japanese touches, creates a serene and inviting atmosphere.

The staff are attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring that diners feel welcome and well-informed about menu options. The restaurant also offers takeaway options, making it perfect for those on the go.

Origami Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone in Benoni craving authentic, halaal Japanese food in a unique setting. Whether you're dining with friends, family, or on your own, the experience is...

If you’re looking for an Asian-inspired restaurant that delivers both incredible food and a welcoming atmosphere, look no further! From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff set the tone for a fantastic dining experience.

The sushi was fresh and expertly prepared, with a great balance of flavors and textures. The stir fry dishes were packed with bold, authentic flavors and perfectly cooked ingredients. To top it all off, their boba drinks were the perfect sweet and refreshing treat—just the right balance of tea and chewy tapioca pearls.

What really sets this restaurant apart is the attention to detail. For Valentine’s Day, they went the extra mile by setting up a themed photobooth, adding a fun and romantic touch to the evening. The service was exceptional, with staff always ready to assist, and the owner personally checking in on guests to ensure everything was perfect.

Whether you’re stopping by for a casual meal or a special occasion, this restaurant is a must-visit. Highly recommend for anyone who loves great food and top-notch...
