The Baron Irene — Restaurant in Gauteng

The only reason that I am giving The Baron at Irene Link a one star rating is because of the attitude of the Manager. I saw the advertisement for the comedy night and phoned to book a table for 5 people. When we arrived we noticed that the stage was set up in the smoking section of the restaurant. I asked our waitress if we could speak to the Manager. She then asked if we wanted to move into the smoking section. We explained that we are non smokers. When the Manager arrived at our table the waitress told him that we didn't want to move to the smoking section. Without a word to us he raised his eyebrows, turned and walked away. We thought that he was going to try and make a plan but he hid away in the smoking section for the rest of our meal. Our waitress was lovely. She kept apologizing and our food was good but I will never return. Don't try and attract people to your restaurant with misleading...

I ordered snails with butter & garlic but got a creamy base - awfull.The ribeye 300g steak was dry and cold with tendon and the baked potato was cold. This dish must have stood a while after being cooked before it was served. I also ordered fresh chillis but that was never served. My wife had a Budda Bowl which was OK.

Also why serve the espresso way before the my ice cream bar one dessert ?

We had to call our waiter three times during our stay , I think he got his timing wrong with us or is simply not trained well for the job.

He still got a tip of more than the normal 10%.

We don't normally complain but you will have to jack up your service in general.

The Baron Irene is always a pleasure to visit — clean, neat, and welcoming. The food is consistently excellent, and you truly get what you pay for in terms of quality and flavour. Service is quick, and the food comes out surprisingly fast compared to many other places.

I’ve never struggled to find a table, so I wouldn’t say booking is a necessity. There are both outdoor and indoor seating options. The indoor area includes a bar, and there’s also a separate section for non-smokers.

One thing I love is the number of TVs throughout the venue — perfect for sports fans. You can even request to have a specific game, like the Bulls, put on.
