Had a truly terrible experience for Mother's Day lunch. We booked a table for 4 people the Wednesday prior to the Sunday. When we got to Higher Ground, no table was reserved for us although I saw my name on the roster for reservations. They ended up putting us in the smoking area, when none of us smoke. We only realised it was the smoking area after a few minutes of sitting down. We asked to move inside and was questioned whether we made a booking by one of the waiters. Vusi eventually sorted a table for us inside. We enjoyed the starters however waited over an hour for our mains. Understanding it is a busy day, no one had communicated to us the reason for the unacceptable delay while waiting. Not even a bread basket was offered to us, which seemed to be standard when ordering mains. The restaurant was understaffed for such a busy day with no organisation with the reservations. One staff member had a terrible attitude who seemed to be upset we took her table inside that she will no longer be serving. So disappointing as my Mother flew in from Cape Town for...
Read moreThe rating is 3 because of below par service received in a well established setting. This restaurant sits in the greater grounds of St Stithians College, which prides itself in many factors.
Food is of good quality but high in price, which is not a problem for the calibre of clientele.
On our visit, the service was below par. The waitress was not energetic nor proactive in serving. She had forgotten an order. A mishap happened with a kid spilling her milkshake and the waitress took long to clean it and did not offer a compensation. The takeaway containers were not apt for the kind of food we wanted to take home.
Overall layout of the restaurant is meant for gatherings to watch sports as there are quite a few 75-inch TVs spread out! The atmosphere is sure to be great. View out of the restaurant is onto their multi-sport field and a bit of the...
Read moreThe view is exceptional at night by Johannesburg standards. The food is better than the run of the mill restaurants in Johannesburg. But the big BUT is that the place at night (Saturday) is a total shambles. There are often events taking place in a section of the restaurant which generates far too much noise from speeches and clapping etc. A door to the bar area would also help isolate the three noise from there into the restaurant proper section. Waiters are pleasant, but food orders take long time to place and then we had an hour wait for it to be served to us. This is not the place to go on a Saturday night for a convivial dinner with friends. HOWEVER, do go there for lunch during the week, when it is fast less frenetic and enjoy the great food and the superb view over Johannesburg to...
