Extremely poor, rude service from the restaurant owner. On 31Jan2021, my wife and I decided to go to this restaurant for lunch. A short while after looking at the menu,we decided to leave seeing that there were no items which appealed to us. We had ordered a pot of tea and before leaving, asked a waiter to cancel the order, which he confirmed he would do. After leaving the restaurant, another waiter approached us to make payment saying that he would need to pay for the tea. We explained to him that another waiter had already canceled the order but he didn't agree saying he would need to pay. We did not want to make him pay so I went to the car, got some cash and went back in to the restaurant to pay. Upon entering, I heard the waiters saying "he's back". I then saw the manager who immediately turned her back to me, accusing me of not wanting to pay, all the while walking away and not having the decency to face or even speak with me. I felt extremely offended by being subject to this behavior since, despite making a false accusation of me, she did not treat me with dignity, and after a while started to raise her voice at me. Is this how a customer should be treated for wanting to resolve a situation and make payment? What I thought would be a very quick, normal and routine gesture, turned out to be a nightmare and I was left feeling extremely embarrassed, insulted and offended. Later on, my wife drove back to the restaurant to clear the air and explain nicely to the owner what occurred. We wanted to do this to engage properly with the owner hoping she had calmed down, and without needing to write a review. However, my wife was received with even worse and rude the behavior from the owner, who raised her voice at my wife despite my wife calmly trying clear and resolve the issue. She shouted further saying she did not care if we wrote a review and gesturing with her hand for my wife to "get lost". This is disgusting rude, uncouth and totally unacceptable. We have eaten at restaurants all around South Africa, and we have never been treated...
Read more5 out of 5 Tortellino D'oro offers Italian dining like we've come to know and love it - absolutely delicious food in sublime abundance, in a laid-back little restaurant, with a resident cat doing the rounds every now and then. (I don't mean the owner, although she is present as well.) There is also a deli I'd highly recommend you pay a visit.
There is a good (simple) selection of Italian wine on the menu, as well as South African produced Italian varietals. The prosecco served by the glass is as good as any prosecco I've ever had. I had artichokes for a starter, ravioli for a main, and tiramisu & espresso for dessert. There was literally not a single false note to speak of during this meal... I enquired about the grappa and liqueurs I didn't see on the menu - the bar had options for me. Our waiter was fast and efficient.
Tortellino does not offer the kind of innovative cuisine design I expect from a fine-dining restaurant. Then again, this place is not for fine dining. This restaurant offers skillful cooking in prime Italian style, with high quality ingredients... I could not have prepared any constituent of my meal better myself. My experience has caused me to want to learn to speak Italian. If that's not good ambassadorship, I don't know what is.
If I absolutely had to take off a mark for something, it would be that I find the place a little more pricey than average. However, I do not mind at all to pay for quality, and Tortellino certainly delivers that in spades. Our three-course meal (with drinks, gratuity and all) for two people came to R1,450. Don't let that...
Read moreI am writing to express my disappointment with the experience my family and I had at your establishment yesterday. We visited for breakfast and unfortunately, three of us experienced upset stomachs after consuming the same breakfast items.
Upon requesting the bill, we simply asked for a glass of water before departing. However, to our surprise, your waiter informed us that it was not permitted and insisted we purchase a bottle of water instead. Despite explaining that our bill was already being prepared and we were ready to leave, we were met with the same response.
What compounded our frustration was witnessing another table receive water promptly upon request for their puppy. We couldn't help but wonder why a dog could receive water while paying customers were denied such a basic request.
Despite spending R4400 during our visit, the refusal to provide a simple glass of tap water left us extremely disappointed with the level of service provided. Our attempts to address this with the owner were met with indifference, as she walked away midway through our explanation.
Regrettably, my family and I have decided not to patronize your establishment in the future. Additionally, I feel compelled to share our experience with others in our neighborhood and on various food review platforms to highlight the poor customer service we...
