Wimpy — Restaurant in Gauteng

If you're South African then you know Wimpy, and you've probably had at least one of their breakfasts at some point in your life. And like with all chain restaurants, you get some that are pretty great and others that are pretty awful.

Wimpy Lakeside is in my opinion, definitely one of the better Wimpy's around. I've been coming here for about 5 years and I don't remember ever having a meal I didn't enjoy. The eggs are never overcooked, the toasties are never oily and the chips are always nice and crispy. Even the seafood is pretty good (fish not overcooked, calamari not rubbery), although I'll never really understand that addition to the menu!

The smoking section is not a tiny room shoved into the back, and the extended section (which I think used to be an outdoor area that was later enclosed) is wonderfully sunny with plenty of windows - which is a nice change for a non-repentant smoker!

There is free wifi, and because there is more than enough seating they don't mind if you stay forhours with nothing but a single cup of coffee. There are times that I wish there were more plug points, but I have a suspicion that this lack was done on purpose! I often sit here for hours at a time (always have breakfast and get a second cup of coffee for free), and probably one of my favourite things about this particular Wimpy is the fact that their music selection is perfect! Easy listening, a nice mix of new and old (plenty of country!) and not too loud.

The service from the waitress was really bad, no smile whatsoever she was just cold and you can see she was bored to even serve us, ordered medium chips, she brought mega ones when I asked her about it she said the medium are too small, we didn't even eat a quarter of those fries coz the bits and bites platter was enough for 2.
