Don't bother driving out to this place.....
After 14 years of supporting this, once perfect cheesecake spot, that I spent years finding, and mom dreamt of coming here, I have to pull the plug....
Still marvellous staff, true country folk, unblemished by Cosmopolitan towns! Good country food.....
Sadly the staff are now expected to run, through a doorway, the same doorway us customers must use.....to be quick quick, otherwise they get a sarky comment from the owner, in front of paying customers!
They are not allowed to talk to customers, except to take orders/payments, even if you asking about the various flavours of cheesecake, to take a slice or two home.
In a nutshell the staff are so desperate for work, they have to take what's dished out to them, and the owner knows that, so he treats them rather badly, and it's what we saw, not here-say.....the tips must be pooled together and I bet your bottom dollar, he takes his cut first!
The worst is, don't opt to utilise two very flat cushions to pad your derrrier, as you sit on cold concrete or hard wooden slats! The owner will come take one away from you.....I watched him do that!
We've loved this place for a very long time, 14 years . Watching it grow from strength to strength....Meeting up with family each time we driving through Wilderness, or staying here. If you know me, I've referred you here many times if I hear you travelling the Garden Route.....
The owner, whom I've seen for the first time in 14 years, will kill this business, sadly! Mark my, words......
And in his words, "it's a choice, everybody has a choice"..... I choose not to support this place anymore. I choose to warn people about you. I choose to never refer people to visit here ever again.
Just as I chose not to shop, as we always do, after our meal.......you probably lost out on another R500 buying stuff that we don't actually need, but we would have made a point of supporting you! We drive from Cape Town to come eat Cheesecake here.....believe it or not! And if you know me, you know I did, for 14...
Read moreDear Owner Firstly, my surname is Iyer. It's my word over your staff. At no point was I asked to pay for the cake and I refused. I assumed she had charged me for it and therefore asked me to take the cake. I replied that I cannot take a cake that had fallen on the floor. I had refused to take the cake and I had not refused to pay R20 for the cake after paying R65 a slice of cheesecake. Please don't make it seem like I am lying since I am a honest person and would not do that. Anyways accidents do happen and so does misunderstanding on your staff's part. Thanks for responding but I hope I have clarified the point regarding the cake.
Hoekwil country Cafe was one of our favorite stops whilst travelling the garden route. They have the best cheesecake and carrot cake. I purchased a carrot cake but the cashier asked my daughter to put it in the styrofoam packaging. Since the packaging was stiff the R20 muffin styled cake fell on the floor. I did not mind paying for it but the cashier asked if we were not taking the cake that dropped on the floor. This speaks poorly of the staff working there. I am a scientist and would not consider eating cake off the floor. Definately, my last trip there, even though the cheese cake is out...
Read moreQuaint, off the main roads coffee/cheesecake shop plus cafe. Relaxing establishment where they speak mostly Africaans and enough English. We were with South African locals who knew Richard, the owner, pleasant and nice gentleman. The cheesecake variety was fantastic. I enjoyed the substantial blueberry cheesecake slice and a powerful and tasty Americano. Seating outdoors and play area for kids. Irene, our server spoke some English and the wonderful sounding Africaans language. Most folks are bilingual and friendly. They clearly could tell I was from the USA 😂😂😂by my western accent. So funny that they need to concentrate to understand me as I need to process their English Great cultural experience. Highly recommend to visit. Thank you for your hospitality 👍👍👍 Bonus, the dollar and/or Euro is about R19.3 to $1.00 so four delicious cheesecakes slices plus for...
