Last night, we celebrated Valentine's Day at Social Eatery, a tradition for us on special occasions. Arriving 40 minutes ahead of our reservation, we intended to enjoy the outdoor terrace. To our surprise, a waiter brought wine glasses without any introductions or information on specials, and left. After waiting for 40 minutes unattended, we had to flag down another waiter to order a starter to share – the snoek board. Despite this, the board was brought out without plates, salt, pepper, or other essentials. Requesting assistance from yet another waiter, we waited an additional 20 minutes. Our board was cleared once finished, but the dirty plates and cutlery were left uncleared. When we ordered our mains at 7:30 pm, we were informed of a long wait due to the busy night. When our mains were eventually served, no cutlery was provided. Upon requesting cutlery, the waiter gestured towards the dirty starter cutlery, which was still on the uncleared plates. Throughout our meal, our wine glasses remained unfilled, and we noticed that tables with European guests received more attentive service. While we always enjoy the food at Social Eatery, last night's service fell well below expectations. Despite the busy evening, we arrived at 6:20 pm when most tables were...

Recently visited as we were on vacation from Natal. I have to say the food was exceptional, the servers even more polite and exceptional but the management have a thumbs down from me. My niece of two years old has been suffering with teething we thought bringing her for a swim would be a nice outing for her however she screamed and cried as babies do. We were asked to keep her down as the guests pay "big bucks" to stay here. We spent a good deal for the few hours we were here. Just cos we didn't spend "big bucks" we aren't valued customers? I felt uncomfortable after my talk with this manager or owner. I had to sit at the eatery and make sure my niece fell asleep and still I felt so uncomfortable being there. If you're a big spender with kids then you will have no issues. However we were treated very differently, the...

Couple from Joburg.

The right choice made for an excellent evening! Knysna hollow had previously facilitated our wedding ceremony - when I called to book a dinner reservation with Danie for our 1 year anniversary, he added the same wedding decor and delivered my special requests without fuss or need for adjustments.

Our waitress Fezi was so helpful, remembered the ceremony, praised us for coming back and made us feel right at home.

The food, delicious - delivered promptly and in good measure.

I do think more menu options could be the only thing that would bring a greater variety and nuance to the eatery, but otherwise this place has a very special place in our hearts, which I will hands down...

Stunning gardens, super friendly staff and delicious food - that's the only way to describe Knysna Social Eatery. The restaurant is located in the mountains away from the Knysna lagoon. It is a very tranquil and calm setting. Their gardens are exquisite and the noise of splashing water from the numerous fountains creates a relaxing ambience. The staff and restaurant management were warm and welcoming and the service was impeccable. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. We had the fried fish and the fish cakes - you simply cannot fault the food. We will definitely return and possibly even look to spend a few nights in one of their stunning villas.

We went there for New Year’s Eve and luckily we managed to reserve a table at the last minute. Beautiful place specially if seated at the outside patio with a nice view of the garden. Service at the beginning was extremely slow and we waited quite a while to be served but then after it did get better. Food is a bit of a hit and miss, my sirloin steak was very good but Thai Laksa bowl was the opposite. They do have a good wine list but pricier than other places we have been to. Easily reached with big parking lot. Certainly worth the visit.

A hidden location in Knysna, but quite a trendy place! As a fan of Social on Main in Johannesburg, I was quite excited to stumble upon the eatery whilst in a road trip. I gather that the place was fairly new and still kind of finding its feet. The ambiance was not that appealing, but it was overshadowed by the sophisticated setting. The waiters were slow and the manager just a tad feisty, but I do think it will all come together with time. Overall, not a bad place to stumble into if you are ever in that side of the world.
