Good day
I tried putting in an order with your restaurant this afternoon for my family and I would like to point out the following:
With my initial phone call I tried placing our order with the gentleman who without notice and clear disregard refused to speak to me further and handed the phone to his wife.
We did not have a complicated order but in return was greeted with animosity when trying to place our order and a terribly false remark stating my number shows as spam (which is definitely not the case as we own several businesses in Gauteng). The lady repeatedly stated that we are ordering for Shelly Beach in which my response remained the same- yes.
I was requested to place my order further on WhatsApp after the menue is sent to me in order to obtain specifics on the ordered items, which in return I did.
After placing the order the lady phoned me again and repeated what was already requested on the whatsapp communication and again reiterated that this order is for Shelly Beach, which I in return AGAIN confirmed. Then during the conversation she started stating she cannot hear me and put the phone down when in fact I was still on the phone.
I phoned back as this was definitely the strangest order I have ever tried making. I made it clear this is n0 prank call and we would like to finalize the order. She again wanted to confirm and thereafter it was clear that they did intend on taking our order. I don't know why or how, nor did it make any sense but Im absolutely gobsmacked and shocked. It is clear that the husband refused to speak with a woman- hence the reason he gave his wife the phone (seeing as my husband called back to place an order and the man was more than happy to take his order without any issues, repetition or refusals) . It is clear that the Green Chilli restaurant has some sort of issue with women placing orders or families wanting to place orders. Never in 42 years have we ever had this type of experience with other business owners and it is, quite frankly, one of the most shockingly sad things...
Read morePleasantly surprised by our first visit to this relatively newly established Indian restaurant, a plus to this region, with its large Indian community and many holiday makers and tourists.
Conveniently situated in the Shelly CBD, Deja Vu Blvd, close to the Shelly Mall Centre of Shelly Beach, with sufficient parking - also for the Handicapped / Wheelchair ♿ patrons. Wheelchair access also provided to the restaurant entrance, as well as adequate seating arrangements..
Run by a local Indian mother and daughters team, the service is efficient, friendly, very helpful regarding the all encompassing menu...and prompt to table! The tasty dishes are well prepared and well presented, with skillful use of the wonderful fine, delicate Indian Spices. This restaurant has carefully maintained the simplicity, yet complexity of traditional good family cooking, which can be noted in the number of local Indian guests enjoying the cuisine - a good, friendly, rustic family restaurant...with a touch of Grandma's cooking! The claim to "fine dining" though, may be a little optimistic...
Prices are surprisingly moderate and certainly good value.
Reservations may be prudent, especially during the busy holiday periods.
Definitely worth...
Read moreAs Dominic toretto said, 'theres always room for family'. Today the only room is the empty space in my family's tummy.
I got the large butter chicken which consisted of 80% water, and 6 cubes of chicken. The paneer makani was the same. We ordered 'hot' which was about as spicy as a steamed potato, with a lack of flavor to match. The staff member informed us that it wouldn't be very spicy but having had the meal previously and experienced a wonderfully spicy meal we thought it must be an underestimate. Chicken Korma was basically just mielie meal, and was wetter than the butter chicken somehow. My family live for curry, and this is the first time we've ever been truly disappointed. I'd understand if the dishes we ordered were fringe meals, seldom ordered, but those are staples upon which every curry outlet should be judged. The mutton bunny was decent though, a small victory.
I see a bunch of great reviews here, it's really blows to be the exception.
I regret not informing the staff at the time but hunger and apathy won.
All in all, just under R600 wasted. Minus the...
