This Spur has one of the best kids play areas in Durban, it's big with a variety of things to keep kids entertained. The play area is shared with the Panarottis next door, in case you want to dine halaal.
There's a new menu, same old things for the past 10 or 15 years but the menu looks revamped. I've had the chicken schnitzel more times than I care to admit, I've had 2 dry, chewy ones in a row at this Spur so I opted for something else yesterday.
The above is par for the course really, it's not fine dining, these things can be expected and if it were only that I'd have rated them 4 stars, mainly because the kids are well entertained.
Two things about my last visit here put this Spur in the 2 star category. Slow service, 10 minutes wait for someone to take our drinks order, while theres a group of waiters standing by idly watching the downpour of heavy rain outside!
The other more annoying thing, while we ate, we were watching the football on TV, nevermind that Liverpool was using hand balls to get ahead of Man City, just before 7pm, so not even half an hour into the game, the staff turn off all the TVs, I have no doubt that this was an attempt to start clearing out the restaurant so everyone can go home. It took almost 15 mins to turn back on, nobody knew what happened. Er hello, the tiny red light under the TV is on so the TV must be turned off! Our waiter had to ask many of his fellow staff to assist, a group of 10 people who work at the store and nobody knows how to turn the TVs on?
It doesn't make sense, 7pm is literally still supper time, there was a group of people next to us who still hadn't received their meals yet, they wouldn't leave for at least another half and hour so what was the need for...
Read moreEdit: They added cheese sauce & chillies to the mushrooms starter & tried it. When we get the crumbed aline it's 12-14 & this time it was lesser , the cheese sauce was just horrid & chillies too pungent. Take it off menu horrid addition imo. Also the crumbed chicken style burger - why ever sweet chillies instead off a mushrooms sauce or mayonnaise option?. Wish Spur actually asked real vegetarians to taste test their planned menu. Plus side - the whole portion of Nachos was HUGE. Offer sourcream with end up always asking for it !
It was a really cold & dreary , rainy day - plenty of draft if sitting close to exit, plan seating based on weather accordingly.
Standard Spur franchise, plenty seating no Long wait times & kids play area.
Vegetarian options limited(Beyond/Soy/Salads/Creamed spinach & butternut, onion rings, slap chips/baked potato) .
Love mixing /matching off the starter menu (Cheesy Quaesidilla , Nachos, crumbed mushrooms) - you can ask and top up crumbled onion rings & sour cream instead of opting for the Veg Schnitzel/ Beyond burger or soy burger combos.
Good hearty food. Love the Peppermint...
Read moreNormally, everytime ive eaten at this spur restaurant , food and service was excellent. But this one unlucky night. We waited at the door for the hostess to seat us and hand out our menus, we wanted over 30 minutes on a quiet evening to receive our food, food arrived with no cutlery and we had to ask the waiter to bring it,when the food arrived the steak knife stil had food stains from the previous persons meal on it bt Still wrapped in the tissue it came in. My rump steak ,the chargrilled parts where tasting of chemical that was catching my throat everytime i ate a piece, due to staff cleaning down the kitchen in full site of customer's, while food was still been prepared. The manager/duty supervisor that was on duty on the 11/11/18, was very helpful and assisted with the meal. She had made a new steak and handed to us,by then i had no appetite at all to eat the meal. Staff need to be well trained and have knowledge about the food production area, chemicals in a food production area is a hazard to the health...
