Went to Woodcutters for Valentine's day dinner. I kniw what you thinking "odd place for a Valentine's dinner venue" but in my defense we wanted to try something different that didnt have "Set menus" most other more romantic settings had satet menus that cost on average R400 pp and didn't offer all that much for the price. Woodcutters offered no set menu and even had a steak special that consists of a 21day aged rump steak, chips and onion rigns for R50! Yes R50! The steak was only 200gs but with a starter was more than sufficient. My girlfriend had ribs as a main and it was delicious. Probably their best item on the menu. Me deing a sucjer for a good deal opted for the rump steak and dare i say it was one of the best steaks iv had in some time. The meat was tender and cooked ro perfection. I ordered medium rare and it came "you guessed it" medium rare. Not medium like so many other establishments that are way more pricy and known for their steaks. I wont mention names. Woodcutters exceeded my expectation. The waitress that served us was curtious and friendly and i really cant find much to criticize the service. If i had to be pedantic i would crit the fact there wasnt enough napkins on our table and i needed to ask for more but that is me being overly critical. We had a wonderful evening and i applaud an establishment that dosnt push Valentine's day and try capitalize set menus with no other options. Well done Woodcutters and i hope you keep up the great work you doing in the kitchen. You will be seeing us again thats for sure. Any resturant that 2 peope go to for a romantic dinner and the bill comes to R410 (incuding tip) that includes two starters two mains, two glasses of wine and two cokes is great value for money. The biggest issue i had as someone that dosnt drink is the price of their soft drinks are on the high side. Over R20 for a 300ml coke is in my opinion a little too expensive. But as i only payed R50 for one of the best steaks iv had its again a very small gripe. Iv heared a lot of criticism on the interior of the restaurant being a little dated but i dont agree. Its filled with pictures and even tools used to fell trees in the old days and i find it a breath of fresh air compared to the minimalist venues that are so abundant everywhere you go. Woodcutters tells a story and i personally like that. I recently hurt my back so i was rather uncomfortable on the chairs but im sure that was only due to my injury and not the furniture. My girlfriend found the chairs to be perfectly comfortable. They also have booths available with very comfortable benches. There is no smoking inside but outside there is a smoking section. All and all im impressed and i hope this establishment is still here long after im not. Salute Woodcutters you have made my top 10 places to eat a...

So where do I begin, if you are going out to drink and get drunk then this is the place to eat and drink. But if you are going out just to eat uhm don't consider it... You need the alcohol to down the food, the fried chips and onion rings were great though like solid 9/10.... Strangely enough while eating I had the urge to keep adding salt every time I took a bite just to add flavour.... Then came the beer which is solid 10/10, normally other places I have been too their beer would be watered down abit, after a few sips I took a few bites and guess what the food tasted fine... Aside from that, the waiter had the most nonchalant attitude when it came to customers. He was slow and rather unconscious of the table he was serving and had us waiting 15 mins just to take our order, during the wait we had the time to look at the restaurant which was quite appealing and admire our surroundings. The owner was nice and...

Food was absolutely pathetic 30mins to bring our starters cheesy garlic roll and cheesy prawns neither tasted fantastic and then another 40 mins for mains to arrive 200g Rump steak rare and a crunchalot burger it was all cold but the plate was piping hot steak was overcooked and the onion rings were full of oil so we sent it all back, the wife at this stage irate had to do search for a manager to explain the issue 15mins later the new plates of food arrived the steak was cooked right but wasn't a Rump was so tough the steak knife couldn't cut it and the onion rings looked like they were cooked in old oil even the sauces tasted powdery needles to say the wife is very sick today won't go back there again having both been in the restaurant business this is the worst food we...

(Updated to 1 star based on their recent reply - even though they are not a fast food restaurant, the service needs to be way better than what they offer) As others have mentioned in other reviews, the service is extremely slow! After placing our drinks order, we maybe waited around 10 minutes for them to take our order for food. The waiter who we dealt with was friendly though. Food wise, it was going very well until we got deserts. Our steak was delicious and everything was fresh. But then when the waffles came, they were still doughy and tasted raw. We got them replaced but had to wait very long for replacements. If the service was faster, it would definitely help.

The ambience is great and the food is lovely. Oh the waiter was something else, he came with an inflated bill, with drinks we never had. When I questioned that he said, "I don't remember your drinks". In fixing that still the amount did not add up and the manager was no where to be found. What a disappoint!
