Hake Away — Restaurant in Overstrand Local Municipality

The Sushi was divine… not had such great sushi in a while. The calamari was over done and too crispy. The hake was good. The extras, like roll and sauce is way too expensive. The person behind the counter was really grumpy, maybe he did not just like our family of 8. Meals did not come with any cutlery or serviettes. I asked for some and he gave me three, I asked if I could have more, he gave me one more, I had to say to him that there is eight of us and very unhappily gave me another two. The service from him was extremely poor. When I look at the around the store, and see all the signs on the wall, it is possible that he could be the owner as the signs matches his character. I must admit that we were there for a while eating and noticed that he did not treat everyone that came in the same. We also wanted more sushi and he said that sushi was over. While we were eating we noticed that more sushi was coming thru, not sure what that was about. I don’t believe in off days, if we in business we should always be on top our game. Not only was the fish, chips and calamari THE best I've had since being in Cape Town and Betty's Bay on my holidays, but the service was so friendly and genuine. This is truly a national treasure. At the very least, it's a local treasure and a fond memory to me until the next time I find myself on holiday on these shores. To all new customers, make sure you get there early, as this beauty of a place is always full...and for good reason. Arguably the best fish and chips I've ever had! The hake was exceptionally fresh, boasting a crispy exterior and a soft, moist interior. The crumbed prawns were another standout. We ended up ordering too much, unaware of the generous portion sizes, especially the chips.

Although they were out of calamari during our visit, I appreciated their commitment to serving only the freshest seafood. Unlike other places that might sacrifice quality by serving frozen alternatives, this joint stays true to its values. That authenticity makes it truly special. I'm definitely looking forward to...
