Always wanted to go here and finally gave it a try. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted with two sassy and entitled waitresses on a clear power trip, with more than 5 tables open, they made it seem like if we didn't have a booking we couldn't sit there, after a small back and forth they gave us a table - a table next to an awning that couldn't open because the zip was stripped, so with the intention of sitting with a sea view was now non existent. In the 45mins we were there none of the other tables got occupied, which meant it wasn't booked for that time so not sure why we were greeted with such hostility and given the "worst" table. Then the waitress that took our order asked which butter we would like with our meal, because they have two that comes with the dish as well as a peri-peri sauce, the way she delivered it made it seem as if it's included with the price. Then she mentioned that the platter only comes with 3 prawns and if we didn't want to add another prawn so that both of us can have two prawns as we were sharing the platter, we decided to do so. The food was sub-average - deep fried prawns with no seasoning, calamari crumb was soggy and the chips tasted like it got reheated and not fresh out the fryer. When the bill came we were shocked to find out that we got charged R30 per butter bowl (which is no more than 30ml at most) as well as R45 for the peri-peri sauce and R45 for ONE prawn. This is an absolute rip off and greedy behaviour. Also the way the waitress sold us the sauce and the butters was as if it came with the dish. When paying she also just said in passing that she already added 10% on our bill for her tip, without our permission. Will not ever be back, I can see that they have gotten away with totally ripping off tourists, but as a South African I saw right through this and I will not recommend this...
Read moreWe visited Quayside Cabin last Friday, 26 Sept. 2025. Have been going to this restaurant for about 8 years, twice a year and highly recommended to all friends. Sad to say, the food was beyond disappointing. We ordered our usual fish and chips. The fish was full of bones and the chips were oily, dark in colour and very unappetising! We complained and received another plate of chips, just as bad! Asked for the Manager who was not on duty, nor was he there the next night. We were given calamari and steamed rice but this was not what we came in for. Eventually got hold of the Manager on Sunday morning, Craig, and he advised he'd look into the problem and call back. Well, needless to say, after another call to him, were told to hold on and then he was suddenly not in. Left another message! I believe in speaking directly to Management and not to put this kind of issue on social media, however, there is no communication here. Quite clearly, Craig is not interested. We will never be back to your restaurant. The least you could do was to call back. We will find another favorite...
Read moreWe have been to this restaurant many times in the past as locals to our residence near by. And many times received great food and service but after how we were treated tonight, we will never recorded or return to this place. Tonight was the first time we met ‘peopal’ ( self- referred to after we tried to get his name ). Tonight was the first time we have ever had a bad experience. As we tried to settle the bill (after being the only table all night at the place) we realised it was inflated with many drinks that were not had by our group. When questioning the waiter, self proclaimed “mr poepal”, we were meant with hostily, abrasion, hatred. Apon a request to make the bill fair we were directed by said “new owner” and same hostile waiter to not pay our bill but leave and never return. We paid what we had eaten that night plus a fair tip in service charge but were still treated with hostility and even zapped as leaving the building.
The food is always good but I will never return nor recommend anyone ever visit this...
