When visiting NEWS CAFE TOWN SQUARE, make sure your phone is securely in your bag, and keep your bag HUNG AROUND YOU AT ALL TIMES.

On 4 DECEMBER 2024, my husband’s phone was SNATCHED right from our table while we were having drinks. The same person tried to grab mine, but I screamed, and he ran off. He got into a WHITE VW JETTA and sped away.

I’VE BEEN TO THIS NEWS CAFE SO MANY TIMES, and this was the FIRST TIME I experienced something like this. Unfortunately, this incident has left me TRAUMATISED, and I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK THERE AGAIN.

IF THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME EXPERIENCING THIS, IT MEANS THIS PLACE IS LIKELY A TARGET NOW, and incidents like this will KEEP HAPPENING.

PLEASE STAY ALERT, AND DON’T LEAVE...

The place wasn't at all what I made it out to be from the outside(mostly due to assumptions on my part),it was actually more chilled and relaxing,it was the only place opened around 9pm for a decent meal.

The service was excellent and with enough food choices. Food was delicious and priced perfectly. The Naan bread with their butter chicken curry was to die for.

There was a DJ who placed lovely music. Although a little loud for my taste but enjoyable, I could see why people frequent the place.

They have a huge cocktail and wine menu. I had "7 deadly sins" cocktail which I enjoyed 😉. The other News Cafe original cocktails(with names not suitable for children) were equally enjoyed by my sisters. I've definitely made a mental note of visiting...

The 3 stars are solely based on our waiter and David the manager had it not been for them this would have been a -1 experience to be very honest I ordered the salt and pepper squid to my suprise what was served were something that looked like shapeless vetkoek it look nothing like squid heads the batter was more bread than batter and it was extremely oily had one or two pieces and told the waiter to clear it she then informed her manager David who came and saved the day his service was outstanding very professional and helpful he asked that we to give it another try but the squid heads dusted instead of a heavy batter and this was great it’s pretty worrying that the franchise thought this was the best way to serve squid but hey each...
