This is a lovely little gem of a restaurant situated on Bright Street in Somerset West and really worth the visit if you are a sushi or seafood lover. Offering three inside sitting areas and one outside smoking area, they have a simple atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner. The kitchen is open plan whereby you are able to see the Chef’s in action. They have a large Sushi Menu available with options you don’t normally find at other local restaurants, which allows you the opportunity to ‘step outside of the box’ and try something new. The Seafood Menu is a lot smaller, but definitely worth trying. Having been here twice now, we can certainly say the fish is not frozen, it’s fresh, delivered daily, and they certainly aren’t shy when it comes to their portion cut sizes. Ordering off the Seafood Menu, we tried: the Hake & 6 Prawn dish with a side of chips, the Seafood Mix consisting of calamari, mussels and hake, with a side of chips, Calamari with a side of rice. It’s best to say that one should visit this establishment if you are hungry because the portions are large and the food is incredibly tasty, to the point that you don’t want to stop eating because the flavors taste like “more”. We would, however, not recommend this dining out experience if you are on a tight schedule or want to have a work business meeting, as the wait for the meals is a bit long, but this is because each dish is prepared fresh from scratch and good quality always takes longer to prepare. The one downside of this restaurant comes down to the Serving Staff as we found them to be a bit too comfortable in their work environment as we had to try and gain their attention twice in order to top up our beverages; and during the meal we were not approached once to find out how our food was.

We were referred by a friend to this restaurant and before we ordered our food, we tried 3 different dishes to try. These dishes were done very well and we went ahead and ordered a bunch of dishes. Unfortunately, it was not as good as the initial 3 dishes served. The sushi was not firm and filling was loosely rolled or wrapped. The tuna was a bit chewy and the dishes on the menu was similar to Willoughbys, at VA Waterfront. Unfortunately, not close to their quality and skills of their chefs. I like consistency and the same dishes served in the same sitting was not consistent. The soft shell crab was quite wet on the inside and we couldn’t get the crab taste we were expecting. The dipping sauce helped. It is a nice restaurant and I think they can do better because the initial dishes were very good. Maybe, the order was too big and the chef was too busy to get the balance of our food to us.

Definitely a hidden gem. We had a late (3pm) lunch, during what seemed to be a very quiet period as there were no other customers in the restaurant. Atmosphere was a bit on the older / dull side, but was extremely clean and cozy, with some light music. Food took a while, but was extremely fresh and well made. Great selection of sushi, just no buffet option, and platters are limited / almost all salmon based. Individual sushi is quite expensive, but worth it. Not a cheap restaurant, but worth it. Staff are very friendly and accommodating, and willing to help with minor off-menu items (chocolate milkshake with some coffee added is highly recommended).
