As a family we’ve been very tempted to try Sanook out since it opened. We spontaneously decided to do it tonight. The aesthetic is beautiful and it sets the tone for a top-class experience, one where you’re greeted at the door etc.

We entered the restaurant and we were greeted at the hostess stand (cool no worries) we booked for 4 and we were seated at a 6 seater (100% pleased with that).

The service was good and the waiter (Prince) made very welcomed recommendations. Everything about the experience was great, the food however, was disappointing.

The only reason I’m posting this review is so that this can be seen to, as I would definitely love to return regularly. My dad received (what he perceived to be) a very small portion of chicken livers, I ordered a medium-rare steak, which was over-cooked at the ends and medium in the VERY middle only, the dusted onions were cold and limp and so were the skinny fries. My brother ordered the Sanook board, his wings were over-cooked and the fillet was over-cooked aswell.

My mom had the Earthling Pasta with Zucchini swirls which she loved.

We raised our concern re the chicken livers and the manager saw to it that a proper portion was refired and sent, all good in that regard.

We did not raise the other concerns because we did not want to be too difficult and spoil the evening, but we thought it best to post a review in one hundred percent good faith, so that these aspects can be seen to, because we would really like to return and have the food actually top off a wonderful experience.

With that being said, we ordered dessert and coffee and that was faultless!

Overall it was a lovely experience and a very nice vibe, but we were just let down by those issues which I’m sure was just one bad send out of many good ones.

Still excited to return and explore the rest of the wide range...

I came here on 3rd June for a late lunch with my mom. I had been to Sanook before and had a good enough experience I decided to treat my mom to a meal here. We had a reservation and were seated right across the toilet when the restaurant was fairly empty. Before we were even able to place our drinks order, our waiter we’d have to order quickly because there was a reservation for our table at 18:30. We quickly ordered our drinks and food together. Drinks were good. Now the one star review is for the food. We both ordered the chicken stack and a portion of fries for the table. These were both horrible. The chips tasted stale. The chicken stack was not good at all. It smelled of curry spice but didn’t taste like anything, no salt nothing. We asked for soy sauce so we could try to fix it. It did not. We also had to pay R25 for that soy sauce which we weren’t told when we asked for it.

We ended up not eating most of our food and just took it all home. Another waiter asked why we didn’t touch our food and we told them we didn’t enjoy it and he told us to stick to foods we know like steak and pizza. Lol. We still ordered desserts because I wanted my mom to at least enjoy something from this place. The cheesecake was good. The service and food not...

All the meals I ordered were food I had never eaten before. One doesn't experience an upper-class restaurant by eating food you can make at home or find at a fast-food restaurant. 🙄😅

The Macchiato was amazing. I definitely should have gone a size up, but maybe that wouldn't have been a safe option for a dinner meal. 😅

The Hoke Poke Bowl (with salmon, because I'm a sucker for salmon🤭) was so beautifully balanced. It was on a bed of black rice! The avocado, the salmon, the beans and soy sauce - everything worked together and nothing overpowered another. Pure marriage! 🤌🏾

I did half and half with a friend who had the BEE. He asked for the steak to be rare, which was also my first time trying it. While it definitely meant less time to chew, cutting through that beef was not the workout I thought it would be. 👀

The Fried Ice Cream was exquisite, and I lapped it all up - no leftovers! But I did share, I'm not that cruel. Next time I might not be inclined to. 🤭

Our waiter, Charles, was never too far away and always seemed to be around whenever we needed him, even before we asked for him. It made for excellent service. We ended up being the last to leave - that's how much fun we had!

I definitely can't wait to...

Backstory: I used to go to Sanook Eatery in Beacon Bay every single month for 2 years. Probably my favourite restaurant in the world. I can confirm that Sanook Somerset shares the exact same quality. My B.E.E pasta was phenomenal! I ate this meal so many time and it’s still one of my favourites. My wife ate a Gochujang Panko Chicken bowl. Man did that look and taste delicious (I finished her bowl because it’s so much food she couldn’t finish everything, haha.) One request. PLEASE bring the bone marrow starter to Somerset. That was one of the best, if not the best starter I have ever eaten! Other recommendations from my experience over the years. Pizza’s: The Chamberlain Special with fig or The Lover Boy. Main meals: The ostrich fillet is also very good!

First time visit and left feeling a tad disappointed. Very basic decor setup but clean and spacious. The menu is detailed and vast, almost too much choice, but there is something for everyone. Service was satisfactory but could have been better. I ordered ribs which were good but just one paper serviette doesn't cut it - no finger bowl or wet wipes and no waiter when you need him. My lunch companion loved her Buddah Bowl, and it looked delicious too. This restaurant would please vegetarians and vegans...more choices than most. Dessert choices were limited and promised more than they delivered. Might give it another try sometime, but when there are other establishments to try, it could be a while.
