Exhausted body + Ongsimi = 100% Health Rating!

Like our "friendly" T-800(A Terminator) kept his promise to come back, YOU'LL BE BACK HERE once you try a bowl of ‘Gamja Ongsimi (potato dough soup).’ Just like baby birds get imprinted on their mother, you’ll never, ever forget this place!

On the last day of the trip in Gangneung last January, I went here with my best friend for lunch, dragging my tired body after a long walk during the trip. We were wondering what ‘Ongsimi’ would taste like, because we’d never heard of it before. The restaurant was located on the second floor of an old, ordinary Korean-style building in Joong-ang market. The spacious hall gave off a "grandparents' house" vibe making me instantly feel welcome! Within 10 minutes of waiting, two bowls of ‘Ongsimi’ were served with its steam beautifully rolling up like a mirage in the desert. Surprised by the first look of a traditional royal delicacy, I tried my first spoonful. It was then that I shouted out ‘Ohoooong!!!!’ For a moment, I thought to myself that it might have been named ‘Ongsimi’ because it makes people shout ‘Ong!!!!’ The scene of people getting shocked and mind-blown after trying just one bite of their meal in an old cartoon ‘Chuka Ichiban(a.k.a. Cooking Master Boy in Japanese)’ passed through my mind. The ping-pong ball sized potato dumplings were chewy indeed, and the mild taste and warmth of soup just soothed my whole body. I felt like I was Olaf melting in the hot summer sun. Besides, the sliced egg garnish, sweet pumpkin, seaweed, sesame powder, and mushrooms added some wonderful extra flavor. It felt like I was drinking a well-boiled medical herb super juice. I literally EMPTIED the bowl to the last drop! Gosh, it was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

One thing I felt needs to be improved here is the restroom. It was too small and old. If it is renovated into clean and modern one, the customers will be more satisfied. :)

And yet, if you wanna try some decent local dishes in Gangneung with only 7~8 bucks, if you wanna feel ‘healing’, and if you wanna have one of your best food in your life, enter its address to your car navigation for your next destination! You’ll never regret it!

지금까지 먹어본 장칼국수 중 가장 맛이 없는 집.

저는 이 지역에 살고있고 면을 좋아하여 어지간한 장칼국수맛집은 유명해지기전 다 가봄.

심지어 감자옹심이 칼국수 동네에 일터가 있어 몇년동안 그 동네의 가게는 거의 가서 먹어보고 물릴정도로 칼국수와 옹심이를 나름 많이 먹어봤다고 생각함.

오늘 장칼국수가 당겨서 남편이 가서 장칼국수와 감자전을 포장해왔고 가격은 저렴한편은 아님.

장칼국수는 국물맛부터 고추장 맛은커녕 된장의 이도저도 아닌 밍밍한 맛이 났음.

칼국수 면은 쫄깃은 커녕 면을 제대로 밀지 않아 두께가 두꺼워서 수제비라 해도 믿을정도였는데 그마저도 두꺼워서 제대로 익지 않았는지 밀가루 덩어리를 씹는 느낌이었고 한젓가락씩 먹다가 너무 대충만든 티가 많이 나 화가나서 다 버렸음.

국물에 들어있는 내용물은 타 칼국수 집보다 면과 건더기 둘다 부실했으며 함께 제공한 김치 모두 중국산을 사용하는지 아니면 당원을 많이 넣는지 김치가 달다못해 무를정도였음.

파는분이 먹어보고 파는게 맞나 싶었고 이런 음식을 돈받고 판다는것도 놀랐음. 하다못해 중국은 따라하기라도 잘하는데 이건 다른집 따라하는 성의조차도 안보였음.

#여기서부터는 이 가격대의 다른 장칼국수 감자전 맛집은 어떤지 얘기해보자면

우선 김치를 직접 담갔음. 그래서 시원하고 아삭하고 적당히 짭쪼름한게 주메뉴와 정말 잘 어울렸음.

국물은 고추장과 된장의 비율이 적절히 이루어져 매콤하고 달큰한 그러면서도 구수한 맛이 났고 면과 건더기가 많았음. 버섯 계란 등등 재료를 넣는게 적어도 여기보단 많았음.

면은 밀가루로 만들다보니 시간이 지나면 끊기는 것이 있지만 그래도 금방 만들어내고 잘 만든 면은 기계만큼은 아니어도 적당히 얇게 만들어서 적어도 덩어리를 먹는다는 느낌은 들지않았음.

뭔 배짱으로 이렇게 파시는지 모르겠지만 전 이집은 두번다신 안갑니다. 돈주고 먹는사람에 대한 기본예의가 없는집이라 봅니다.

강릉시 향토음식대회 수상, SBS 모닝와이드&모닝와이드, KBS 생생정보통, MBC 생방송 오늘저녁. 모범음식점. 감자옹심, 장칼국수, 감자전 먹었음. 강릉에서 가장 유명한 감자옹심이집을 꼽으라면 손에 꼽히는 두집중 한 집. 감자옹심이를 최초로 낸 집이라는 썰도 있으나 확실치 않음. 1980년대 후반에 비슷한 창업시기를 가진 식당이 있음. 이집도 오래된 집임. 40여년이 넘었으니까. 당연히 맛도 좋음. 옹심이나 장칼국수 모두 동일한 해물육수를 사용하는 듯 시원하고 맛있음. 옹심이에서는 진짜 독보적인 집. 장칼국수에서 고추장 특유의 맛이 나긴 했음. 감자옹심이가 더 괜찮다는 말이 장칼국수가 맛없다는 뜻은 아님. 깍두기와 배추김치가 있는데 신김치임. 내입맛에 딱임. 이집의 주메뉴는 감자옹심이와 감자전임. 감자옹심을 시키면 짧게 잘린 칼국수가 들어있음. 옹심이만 먹고싶다면 순옹심이를 먹어야함. 첫입 먹자마자 맛있다는 말이 절로 나옴. 일하는 분들도 친절하심. 한가지 불편한 점은 위치가 애매함. 시장인것도 아닌 그렇다고 먼것도 아님. 그것도 2층임. 그래도 맛집은 찾아가는거니까. 입구에 사장님 사진이 크게 걸려있는것부터 이미 완벽! 추천은 옹심이, 감자전을 하겠음.
