Choi Yeonghwa Bakery — Restaurant in Gyeongju-si

2025.04.01 If you love red bean buns, Choi Yeonghwa (최영화 빵) is the place to go. it’s the original in Gyeongju.

After checking out, we stopped by this little shop just outside our accommodation to pick up some buns for the road to Seoul.

It was a quiet Tuesday afternoon, and we were the only customers. An elderly grandma was tending the shop, adding a homey touch to the experience. The red bean filling here was noticeably less sweet than the ones from the larger, more popular bakery down the main road, which we visited a few autumns away. Most tourists flock to that shop, but this one felt more local.

My only gripe? The buns weren’t served hot, they had already been prepared earlier. Still, the flavor made up for it. 1200...

Small bakery located near the Tomb complex. We saw that the local people were carrying around bags from this bakery and couldn't help but try the baked goods ourselves as well. They only produce this small rounded sweets filled with red bean paste. Really really tasty when they are warm and fresh. We highly recommend...
