The Daereungwon Tomb Complex in Gyeongju is a truly fascinating site, offering a unique window into the Silla Kingdom's history. The vast expanse of grassy mounds, which are actually ancient royal tombs, creates a serene and almost surreal landscape. It's quite remarkable to imagine the history and stories buried beneath these verdant hills.
While I visited in early spring, and the foliage wasn't at its peak lushness, the sheer scale and historical significance of the complex still left a lasting impression. I can only imagine how much more vibrant the site must be in the full bloom of spring or the rich colors of autumn.
Even without the vibrant greenery, walking among these ancient tombs evokes a sense of wonder and respect for the Silla Dynasty. The Cheonmachong Tomb, which is open to the public, provides a glimpse into the burial practices and treasures of the Silla royalty. It's a must-see within the complex.
While my visit was in early spring, I would highly recommend visiting in other seasons to experience the changing beauty of the landscape. Regardless of the time of year, the Daereungwon Tomb Complex is a powerful reminder of Korea's rich past and a must-visit for any...
