秘苑/Biwon — Restaurant in Jeju

Biwon holds the claim to have the best Samgyetang in Jeju. A small sign in front of the restaurant from some ministry/tourism association helps support that claim.

There are only 3 dishes, and there is a 'No Sharing' policy. Meaning if there are three people, you must order 3 dishes. You have the star of the show, the Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup), Beef short ribs soup (galbitang), and Chicken Gizzard (dakmoraejumeoni). The first two are soup based, the last is dry.

The difference between the Samgyetang here and elsewhere is that while others are normally served with glutinous rice inside the chicken, Samgyetang in Biwon is served with rice/porridge and HUGE chunks of Ginseng inside. Portions are large as well; out of the 3 people in our group who ordered it nobody managed to finish their meal on their own.

The Galbitang was okay, not special in particular. But the portion is much smaller, so if you dine here you may wish to have someone order ther Galbitang or Dakmoraejumeoni as they are of smaller portions and share the remaining Samgyetang that the others...

The ginseng chicken soup is very hearty and the portion is very generous. However, the staff insisted on each person at least ordering one item from the menu. There are only three items on the menu, and each of them are large portioned soups (galbitang, ginseng chicken soup, etc) and we ended up ordering two ginseng chicken soups of which we could only finish half. It’s a waste of food as I don’t see how one could finish the entire soup as it looks big enough to be shared by two people (or more!) - that said, credits to the chef as the soup is really one of the best I have...

Ginseng chicken isn't amazing. The highlight is the floor manager. She isn't very friendly and was told that we had to order a main dish per person and so we did. Shortly after our meal, we saw a couple next to us shared a dish and we feel targeted as a foreign tourist.
