We had a very unpleasant experience, all though this usually is a very amazing and tasty place to eat! All though prices are high, the sushi is worth it. That's why we wanted to eat there once again after we ate there several times a few years ago. We asked a very friendly waitress for a table, who told us that the place was fully booked. She told us that we could make a reservation at 10h30 pm, but that if people took more time eating, she couldn't guarantee the time slot. So she asked for my phone number to call me (it was 9 pm at that time) since we were staying quite close to the restaurant. Later I see that I have a missed call on my phone at 10h24 pm, though for some reason it didn't ring. I called back immediately at 10h28 explaining that I didn't hear the phone, and to ask if the table was still available. The first person we talked to didn't understand what we meant (with the phone call and the reservation), so he passed on a different person. A very unfriendly man (I assume the manager) told me that our reservation and our table was gone, because we took too long. I explained him that it only took 4 minutes for me to reply, but that if it was gone, it was gone. Then he scolded me saying that we were called half an hour ago (which we weren't) and that 'tables are money' and 'his time is precious' and he cannot hold off tables when customers are 30 minutes late. After a discussion where I explained that we had a reservation at 10h30 pm that still needed to be confirmed, and that it only took us 4 minutes to reply, not half an hour, and that we weren't late at all, he calmed down and offered for us to sit inside with two free beers so we could wait there in case a table opened up. At first we agreed, but in the end we didn't take his proposal. We didn't feel like eating there anymore after having been treated this way. The mix-up with the reservation was not that bad, but the rude behavior of the person on the phone is not acceptable. I'm sure other people will most likely have a lovely experience, since the food is great. We just didn't feel like paying this high a price for the food after...
Read moreBelow mediocre. From start to finish this was a very disappointing experience. On arrival my request for a table looking over the sea had not been fulfilled and I questioned if we should eat there at all, as the tables were squashed so close together, the server explained that they had people who had booked 2 months in advance so I thought perhaps the food is excellent, we should try it. It took a while for our drinks order to be taken and about 15 minutes later they arrived, despite our drinks being empty at the start of our second course, the server never returned to ask if we wanted another drink. To start we ordered prawn tempura which had batter that was very thick and two dipping sauces. One sauce was bland and watery, the other was overpoweringly salty. The gyoza was the only dish we enjoyed, which had good flavour and a tasty, plentiful dipping sauce. They did accommodate us for the main course as we don’t eat Sea bass but the 20 piece ‘mixed’ sushi was so boring, just salmon and tuna and my partner did find some bone/ hard gristle in a piece of tuna nigiri. We had to ask two different servers for extra ginger which was a challenge in itself as they did their best to look busy and avoid catching the eye of their patrons and by this point the restaurant was half empty! In the brief one hour we stayed (we were keen to get the bill and dash) I witnessed two different tables near us being delivered the wrong food to their tables. There are plenty of other lovely restaurants in port Andratx what have the same stunning view that will provide better food, attentive service and be far more reasonably priced. Such a shame, we left still a little hungry and this is the first restaurant I’ve not tipped in the Port in my 20+ years of visiting. Will not...
Read moreWe booked a table at Sumailla specifically to enjoy the water view and sunset. Upon arrival, the host insisted we could not sit at the waterfront table we expected, claiming it was booked by another party a week in advance. However, throughout our entire dining experience, no one ever sat there. Meanwhile, he refused to seat us at any of the other waterfront tables that were clearly available, and instead placed us at a table by a column that completely blocked the view, the very thing we came for.
The dismissive way this was handled left us feeling unwelcome and very disappointed. We had planned to order drinks and make it a special evening, but the atmosphere was spoiled. For a restaurant of Sumailla’s reputation, guests should not be pushed aside unfairly, especially when the table in question remained...
