We visited the Kismat two nights ago as a table of eight wise men. It was great to have our feet back on the old terracotta of an establishment already knowing the cuisine is top notch - we were not let down with our 5 star rating being applied, again.
The Kismat happens to be the name of my favourite local tandor back in Blighty. I can only assume the Los Cris venue was previously deployed as a forward operating base which is now flourishing. A testament to the skills of the head chef and the management team.
The popadoms and dips were on form. We needed to order an extra chutney tray but that’s just personal preference as I like to convert my popadoms into a vast array of Canapés, sauce a plenty. The eight wise men had eight different Ruby (almost) with the overarching feedback around the table being very positive.
Two wise men ordered the same Ruby but one with lamb and the other with chicken tikka. The waiter couldn’t quite tell which was which but after a short period of foraging, we quickly worked it out ourselves. Luckily one of the wise men has a favourite pastime specialising in foraging for local meat which did help matters. It was great to see such dedication this week with him taking the time to further develop his favourite pastime on two separate occasions whilst on holiday. His skills were applied here very successfully to a different scenario. A well earned accreditation tombstone.
The service was good, although we were regularly pestered to check if we were ok - approximately every three minutes. This started out as very attentive service but swiftly moved on to being a downright nuisance, presumably trying to load up our table with additional drinks. Being eight wise men, we have previously developed the skills to order more drinks very eloquently when required, so this really wasn’t necessary. More importantly, our confidential conversation of Rose vs. Coo was interrupted indefinitely.
On a wider assessment of the situation, I have now realised that the attentive service (checking if we were ok every three minutes and/or required extra drinks every three minutes) was in fact necessary for most of the clientele who frequent the Kismat. This has turned into a point of genius by the Kismat, as most clientele who accommodate the local hotels (eg KN Columbo) do require that extra bit of help and encouragement. Evolution has not been so kind to them and I now appreciate that they require that extra support, by pointing out the fact that the sensation they are feeling on their tongues is the natural bodily sense of thirst which informs them that they require a drink. There is no doubt in my mind that their evolution will catch up after a couple more family generations are created, and they will be able to register exactly what that bodily sense actually means on their own accord.
5 out of 5 stars has been applied by the eight wise men. Thanks again Kismat...
Read moreThe food was delicious and maybe one of the best Indian dishes I’ve eaten. However, what let the restaurant down on the day of my visit was the service. We were left stood at the threshold of the restaurant with no indication of where to sit or being told to find any table we like, this is a small issue but sets the standard for the rest of the service. The lady who waited on us came and took our order which we repeated several times and felt like we were getting nowhere. We received our poppadoms and then waited and waited and waited. 2 kids main meals and one starter followed after around 45 mins of waiting. We were then left to wait another half hour for the other two mains and sundries which were to be shared with the children however by this point they had already finished their meals. When the food did arrive there was no apology or explanation just “food delay” muttered to us.
The portions were small and the meat was lacking in quantity, as mentioned though the taste and flavour was excellent.
After all the time waiting we needed more drinks which the lady kindly brought to us, but no glasses. I requested a glass and was told she would come back with it. This never materialised. After 5 minutes of waiting I took pre-emotive action to go to the bar and get a glass myself.
Once all finished, the lady perked up and offered to wrap our left overs so as not to waste them and did in fact wrap the remainder of our naan breads which hadn’t been rated due to the children already being finished with their meals. She brought the bill and I was neither surprised nor shocked. The food is priced at a premium but the portions are not, the flavour and taste do make up somewhat for this.
I would return in the future, however would show up with a full stomach so I am hungry for when the food does...
Read moreWe came here for dinner after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. We ordered Chicken Biryani, Lamb Jalfrezi and Chicken Bhuna for 2 adults and one teen with a Kids Tikka Masala for our toddler. The food took 45min to arrive (many diners got theirs ahead it seemed) and when we did finally start eating, we noticed that some of the chicken in the kids' meal was raw. They said "it's just one piece, the others are fine", but when it's mixed with the sauce and we know we've used the same cutlery to cut several pieces of chicken (including the raw one) we thought it was unacceptable. They did offer to do it again in the end, but by the time the recooked one arrived, our toddler had nibbled enough from the rest of our food and had cuddled up with mummy. This was around 1h 15min after we arrived at the restaurant. The rest of our food was ok and even the Chicken Tikka Masala they redid was very nice, although our toddler had hardly any of it. Still, compared to our local Asian restaurants in the UK, this was...
