Sol y mar Lugar de tapas — Restaurant in Arona

We stopped by for dinner last night and were massively disappointed (as we had been recommended this new restaurant by friends).

Good points: It's right on the sea front in Las Gallatas and you get a fabulous view of the sunset. It's also very reasonably / cheaply priced.

Not so good points: I ordered a garlic prawn tapas (that is pictured both in the menu and in the window of the restaurant as large king prawns in a skillet). A bowl of miniature prawns was delivered with very little garlic oil. It just looked totally different to any of the marketing and, honestly, I could have made a better dish with a bag of frozen small prawns myself.

My wife ordered chicken breast that had been butterflied and cooked within an inch of its life.

It was like a frisbee - so tough through overcooking and totally inedible.

Summary: I told the owners that I was disappointed that the prawns were so tiny and pointed to the picture of the king prawns - she just shrugged her shoulders and said the picture is different to what they serve! Be warned not to trust any of their pictures.

Overall a very disappointing night out and possibly the worst meal we've eaten on Tenerife over the last ten years.

AVOID unless you are stopping for a drink as it is in a beautiful spot.

Delicious food and great service. We visited with our celiac daughter, and the chef himself came out to explain what on the menu was suitable and also how he was going to cook it for her. He was super knowledgeable, and we felt really confident eating there with her. All foods were fresh and perfectly cooked. We had the tastiest paella, garlic prawns, chopitos, and carne de cabra. The goats meat was really tender and tasted super nice. The prawns and chopitos were really fresh and tasty: we had dinner before at a so-called "cofradia" where the food wasn't half as fresh as at Sol y Mar. Home-made deserts also a 10!! Crema catalana and quesillo 😋 Great attention to detail and the kindest service, even by providing "fancy" glasses with the kids juice as requested by them 🤣 We will be back!

Comida deliciosa y servicio estupendo! Fuimos a comer con nuestra hija celíaca y el chef salió para explicar qué platos podía comer y cómo los iba a cocinar para ella. Se notaba la experiencia y conocimiento de la dieta celíaca y nos sentimos muy seguros comiendo allí con ella. Todos los alimentos estaban frescos y cocinados a la perfección. Comimos sabrosa paella, gambas al ajillo, chopitos y carne de cabra. Todo riquísimo!! La carne de cabra estaba especialmente tierna y sabrosa. Las gambas y chopitos super frescos: habíamos tenido una mala experiencia en una "cofradía" hacía unos días y la comida en Sol y Mar es muchísimo más fresca! Un 10 también para los postres caseros! Crema catalana y quesillo 😋 Servicio super amable, acomodando incluso la petición de la niña de servir el jugo de naranja en "copas elegantes"...

My boyfriend and I were here today for dinner and everything was perfect, from the beginning till the end. The waitress was incredibly friendly, and we had some super delicious tapas (sardines, chopitas, albondigas, patatas). Everyone on the team was very attentive and made us feel welcome the entire time. We’ll definitely be coming back — it was by far the best service and one of the tastiest dinners we’ve had on the island. I even got a banana milkshake upon request, even though it wasn’t on the menu.
