Had my first dinner in a second trip to Barcelona here, and have to say am definitely not impressed.
I came in without looking up reviews but mainly due to the amount of customers they have compared to other bars on the street, and thought that if the locals like it then it must be good. Boy was I wrong.
This restaurant serves fusion Mexican Spanish food - ordered the bento's hat potato and croquettas. One Mexican dish and one Spanish dish - this can't be wrong right? Turns out the croquettas were cold inside ( and still surpringsly disappointing when they serves the second time when it's hot - I've had much better tapas even in a fast Spanish chain in London), and the bento's hat potatos definitely has potatos that are surprisingly dry and overcooked with surprisingly minimal iberica ham and sauce. Definitely taste like someone who don't either know Mexican food or Spanish food who mixed them together, and definitely causes me the realization that my cooking isn't that bad after all.
Definitely not good Mexican and absolutely not good Spanish food either. I kept telling myself that I could definitely do much better in the land of tapas. Makes me wonder where the...
Read moreThis fun, tapas style bar embodies the true Barcelona dining experience. The seating is very intimate and the restaurant is always full. We try to arrive when the kitchen opens (7 pm) or earlier to ask for an inside table or sit at the bar, although there is also outside terrace seating. Enjoying the authentic Barcelona tapas dining experience is only part of the reason we keep returning to dine at bar Calders as the food quality and taste is very high. To start we always ask for the Russian potato salad and the salmon tartar. The sandwiches and biquinis are also extremely tasty and unique. We are often full after just the salad and the tartar (we always ask for the bread with tomato, relatively light and very flavorful). Their aperol spritz accompanies the meal perfectly if you are craving something alcoholic and for dessert there is a carrot cake with cinnamon ice cream that we cannot leave without trying. Som evenings there can be a significant wait and they do not take reservations by phone. Bar Calders is a must try if you are...
Read moreWe had lunch today there and it was fantastic, gave the place five stars with all my heart. The interior is small, simple, cozy and decorated in Mexican style with lots of cacti. There is also a nice, spacious terrace which is understandably preferred, so it's filled first. Both are packed until peek hour is over, (by 2.30 afternoon) with more people queuing outside, waiting for a table. I don't think they are accepting reservations, so come early. The cuisine is mexican. We appreciated the nachos with mushrooms and Guacamole a la Jordi very much, best ones we ever had. The portion was huge, filling and enough for two. Despite the fact that it was full, the service was surprisingly quick, the girls didn't loose their nerve or good manners in the surrounding chaos 😄 The bar allows pets inside, although I don't know how they manage with the big ones, as the space between tables is small! Guess they (the pets) have to be on their best behaviour... 😋💛 Highly...
