Cafè Flanders — Restaurant in Barcelona

I’m a New Yorker in Barcelona on business and stopped here for breakfast and coffee. The food was good, but I was disappointed at checkout. The two locals ahead of me paid normally, but when it was my turn I was presented with a screen asking for a 15–30% tip. Having been to Spain many times, I know this isn’t customary—usually just a small coin or two for great service. When I asked, the cashier admitted it wasn’t expected, just “optional.”

The issue isn’t the money—it’s fairness. Singling out tourists for tipping feels like taking advantage of people who don’t know the local custom. Imagine a café in New York quietly adding a “tourist fee” while locals were exempt. Even if it’s just a few euros, it leaves a negative impression of an otherwise...

The server was very friendly, but the food was in our opinion terrible. We ordered the bread with tomato and oil which was completely soggy and we also found a hair on it. We ordered 4 different tapas wheres we got two wrong ones. Maybe they should start writing the order down to remeber everything correctly. One groupmember of us ordered a pizza, which definitely was a frozen pizza and not a selfmade one. Only the salad was fine, it was served without e dressing but there was vinegar provided on the table. Overall it was a really bad experience, we paid almost 60€ together and we gave back more than a half of the whole food, because...

For anyone interested in quality Belgian beers or vermouth (vermut) it is a place to come. Tapas selection is brilliant and very tasty in real life. Staff - amazing, specifically Kilian, such a guy! Loads of space to sit outside, but inside was air conditioned as well which is a great bonus.
