I had an excellent experience here, one that deserves praise from start to finish. The sourdough bread with olive oil set the tone. The oil was simply outstanding – thin on the palate, not burning, not overly sour, just perfectly balanced and elegant. The bread itself was clearly homemade and flavorful, though the very center was slightly underbaked; when I pulled it apart, some dough stuck to my fingers. The crust was also very hard, most likely from being baked in the morning, then cut, reheated and left until service. Still, it was enjoyable overall.

The paella, however, was the real star. Absolutely phenomenal, and without exaggeration one of the best, if not the best, I’ve ever had. Rich, deeply flavorful, and truly authentic. The cod was brilliant, the seafood perfectly executed, the peppers provided balance, and the garlicky sauce tied everything together in a way that was simply gorgeous. It was a dish that left me genuinely impressed.

The service was friendly, attentive and very helpful, adding to the overall experience. The menu was rich and varied, presented in a modern way. Instead of a paper card, an iPad is handed to you, where some dishes feature a small house symbol you can click on to see where the ingredients come from, often directly from the food market next door. This thoughtful detail gave the whole experience an added sense of transparency and connection.

The ambiance was stunning. Sitting outside, I had a direct view into the kitchen, which made the experience even more special. With a team of around eight people working in harmony, it was a joy to watch. The female head chef kept everything on point, briefing the team when needed, maintaining calm and balance, and ensuring everything was perfectly orchestrated. It felt like more than just a kitchen; it was a family, and that energy radiated into the dining experience.

Overall, this was a remarkable experience that blended authenticity, quality and atmosphere. The paella alone would be worth the visit, but the combination of food, service, ambiance and concept made it unforgettable. Highly...

Our last meal in Barcelona before heading to our third destination was a memorable one, despite the rainy weather. We chose to dine outdoors, relishing the fresh air rather than being cooped up in a stuffy indoor setting. Our server, Abdoul, was incredibly attentive and accommodating, making us feel welcomed right from the start.

Even though we had indulged in some tapas just a couple of hours earlier, we were eager to savor more of the local Catalan cuisine before leaving this amazing city. The highlight of our lunch experience at Casa Amàlia was undoubtedly the two pork dishes we ordered.

Casa Amàlia Torrezno The double texture "duroc" torrezno, cured according to the Designation of Origin Soria, reminded us of our comfort food back in Hong Kong—a delicious roasted three-layer pork. It was rich and satisfying, perfectly cooked and crispy.

However, the star of the meal was the Peus De Ministre. This Iberian acorn-fed pork tail, stewed in its own juices and served with potato parmentier and chestnut mushrooms, was a revelation. The pork tail was expertly sliced into small pieces, beautifully braised, and wrapped in a layer of pork skin that resembled a dome. Admittedly, when we sliced into it, the presentation didn't look particularly appealing, but the flavor was exceptional. My partner, who loves to cook at home, was so inspired by the dish that he vowed to try making it when we return to Hong Kong.

During our meal, we also had the pleasure of meeting a lovely staff member, possibly a manager, who shared that he used to work in Mandarin Oriental, Macau. His warm demeanor added to the welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant.

Overall, our experience at Casa Amàlia was a delightful conclusion to our culinary adventures in Barcelona. We left with full bellies and happy hearts, eager to recreate the delicious...
