ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE Service and Racism – Do Not Recommend!!
We had an absolutely terrible experience at this restaurant. From the start, the treatment we received as Asian customers was shockingly discriminatory compared to how the staff treated others.
We made a reservation 30 minutes in advance, but when we arrived, they claimed they couldn’t find our name and made no effort to accommodate us. Meanwhile, other diners (two non-Asian couples seated near us) were treated with enthusiasm and respect, receiving warm smiles, detailed descriptions of the dishes, and personalized suggestions.
In contrast, we were served cold bread that we had to ask to be reheated. The server showed no friendliness or professionalism—no smiles during ordering or serving, nothing but indifference. The service was painfully slow; while we waited for one dish, the staff sat down nearby to eat their own dinner! Even after they finished their meal, we still hadn’t received our food. (Crazy!)
To add insult to injury, after we paid the check, a new table arrived, and the servers who had been cold and dismissive to us suddenly became warm and chatty again, making small talk and serving them with care and passion.
While the food itself wasn’t bad, it was overpriced, and the appalling service made the entire experience negative. If you’re Asian—or care about being treated with basic respect—I cannot recommend this place at all. Racism has no place in the service industry, and the way we were treated here was...
Read moreSimply one of the finest meals we’ve ever eaten. Food cooked with passion and curiosity in a friendly and professional setting. Alejo and the staff were busy, though they made time to guide us through their beautiful menu. I can still remember the taste of the duck croquettes and will do for a very long time. The Cerviche was outstanding. The Hake cheeks and crayfish were also a dream to taste, as was the ganache - one of the best I’ve ever had. I’ve eaten in many fine dining establishments, but for me the atmosphere and approach of this team made such a difference, perfectly in tune with their locality and seasonal produce. The wine that Jordi recommended was perfect to accompany our meal and we finished our evening with one of the finest brandies I’ve ever tasted. The cost was very reasonable considering the quality, as the service too was exceptional. My only regret is that I didn’t arrive earlier so I could eat more of this incredible menu! A big Thankyou to the team here for one of the most memorable dining experiences of my life. Catalonian food at its very best, an essential place to eat when visiting Barcelona, I can’t wait to return and taste more from this outstanding menu. When people who love food have the courage and passion to guide the way, wonderful things happen. All the best to Alejo, Jordi...
Read moreYesterday I had dinner with my family visiting from Saarbrücken. A friend of mine told me a while ago about Denassus, a small Tapas, Vine Bar and Restaurant located in one of the famous Tapas Streets of Barcelona. Denassus is fun to go alone and sit on the Bar getting spoiled or even like yesterday, with a group of 7 people. To get the most out of it, we were asking one of the waiters, to put together a free style menu to share. It turned out genius, we had a variety of small plates, croquetas, 2 different types of Jamon, pan con tomate was not missing, Gambas, carpacio, an amazing Tomato Salad, finishing with two main courses of sirloin and sea bass. We tried three different deserts, and got chupitos de hierbas offered from the house! We were blown away by the flavours of each dish, their freshness and little details and twists which made them even more delicious! A tiny open kitchen behind the bar, where magic is obviously happening! The place was packed, but not loud or hectic, the staff is adorable and absolutely laid back and really friendly. Great service, well trained and professional, a lovely welcome atmosphere. The menu was perfectly chosen and proposed for all of us and we had an amazing unforgettable dinner and time at Denassus! A must go for locals...
