La Bodegueta de Cal Pep — Restaurant in Barcelona

To be quite honest, we have been enjoying almost all of the tapas and drink stops we’ve been having in Barcelona over the past month. We certainly lack local tapas confidence but have allowed our taste buds to categorise our tapas experiences into two distinct categories- very good and ordinary.

La Bodegueta de Cal Pep was at the top of our very good experiences. The service was excellent. The barman even went to the trouble to explain a little more about the food and the stories behind some of the vermouths we tasted.

For the love of all that is good and holy, you must visit this place no matter where you are staying in Barcelona. Helps if you know a little Spanish or Catalan, but they also had an English menu for cross-reference (my partner speaks a little Spanish and i speak none, but we still made it work with the waiter very well). Service was amazing, cocktails and vermut were unbelievable, and the price was mind-blowing compared to anything you will get in the U.S. with far better quality, and if you order 3-4 appetizers I guarantee you will not leave hungry. Había visto anunciado en redes que celebraban la revetlla de Sant Pere el 30 de junio con tapas de pescado, música y mucho mas, y me llamó la atención. Entonces me fijé que la habían cogido los del Cau del Vermut para gestionarla. Pensé que estaría bien ya que me gusta como trabajan los otros establecimientos que tienen. Asi que llamamos para reservar y nos dieron mesa a las 21h. La bodega esta igual que cuando la regentaban los anteriores dueños. Habían puesto algo de decoración marinera y música, bastante alta por cierto. La mesa que nos habían reservado era bastante incomoda. Nosotros que somos altos, estábamos debajo de una estructura con botas, por lo que teníamos que entrar agachados y los taburetes eran tan pequeños que nos sobraban piernas por todos lados. Tambien estábamos junto a los lavabos y la cocina, con el jaleo que conlleva. Por lo que entre la música y todo lo demás, no podíamos hablar sin gritar. Se acercó el camarero y nos trajo la carta especial para la ocasión. Los precios eran correctos inicialmente pero cuando nos trajeron los platos que pedimos las porciones nos parecieron minúsculas. Eran platillos a precio de tapas. Lo que tambien me sorprendió, para mal, fue que aun estando el local lleno de botas no había vino a granel, pero tampoco tenían carta de vinos, asi que le dijimos que nos indicara que opciones había y precios (para evitar sorpresas). Cuando elegimos el vino que queríamos, nos trajo la botella abierta a la mesa.. En cuanto a la comida en si, la zamburiña a la plancha estaba muy buena. Los calamares andaluza bastante salados, el tartar de salmón, sin mas, y el ceviche eran 4 trocitos de pescado únicamente.
